Hi

The weather here in Quebec, Canada is quite cold now average temperatures are 10C, 6C overnight. Some rare days 16C.

My pool water is close to 13C I feel it is best to close the pool.

I am going to drain the inground pool, 1 foot below the return jets. I’ll follow the closing producers.

My pool is algae free and clean. I vacuumed it yesterday. Pool is balanced with a FC of 5. Pool is choirine.

Do I need to put a shock, or any other winterizing chemicals?

You can add a Poly 60 algaecide (if available in Canada) or bring up to SLAM levels based on CYA and close. You can even keep SLAM levels and 50% and add the Poly 60 without any concerns.

How long after I put the algaecide that I drain my pool?

I would run it for 12-24 hours to mix properly. All depends on your set up. If you have only 1 or 2 returns, and only skimmer + main drain, then 24 hours. If you have 4 returns, 2 skimmers, and 2 main drains, then 12 hours. Thank you.
