Why do I have to brush so Dang much?

I have an issue that has me completely baffled. I find that I have to constantly brush my pool because in no time there is what I jokingly call a “5 o’clock shadow” of algae. I don’t think it is just settlement because I observe some on the walls too. It brushes easily and doesn’t take long to brush and the pool looks great right after but a day later it’s looking like it could use another brushing. Seems like I shouldn’t have to put that much effort in maintaining my pool or am I wrong? I have been diligently maintaining the FC residual 3.0 or higher. CC usually zero, maybe ranged to .5 here and there. Ph ranges between 7.2 and 7.4. Alkalinity is 90. Last reading of CYA in late May was around 30. also form this late May reading my hardness was 248, iron .1, copper .1 and TDS 700 and phosphates around 1200. I use primarily chlorine tabs through a feeder and occasionally supplement with granular. Are the phosphates really the culprit here? I do have a border garden very close to the pool which is likely a contributor to the phosphate levels but I’ve read forums that say phosphates are a bit of hocus pocus so not sure what, if anything, this level contributes to the problem. Pool is 16x32 in ground and I Run an 48 SF DE filter for about 6 hours daily. Temp of water pretty steadily at 90 F maintained mostly by using a solar cover and occasional heat pump use. Any suggestions Or am I making too big a deal of this? Thanks in

W,

If you have algae, it simple means you are not keeping your FC high enough. Period...

With a CYA of 30, your FC target is 4 to 6, and I recommend you run at the higher end.

That said, I doubt your CYA is 30 if you use tablets and powdered shock. My guess is at least 50 ppm. The FC target for 50 ppm is 6 to 8 ppm.

It really is that Dirt Simple..

Thanks,

Jim R.
