I just recently moved into a home with a fiberglass pool and have been learning to maintain the pool levels but something I've been struggling with is what feels like a white powder on the walls and bottom. The powder feels chalky and smooth on the walls and it can be rubbed off by hand and brush and leaves white residue on hands. It seems that each day that I brush it doesn't make a difference and when cleaning the filter with the hose, all of the water run off is white like milk (not sure if this is normal). When brushing the pool it makes the pool go from clear to cloudy white as well.

I have been getting it tested at Pinch a Penny until I buy an at home testing kit and I asked them about it, they said it is most likely calcium or the liner is going to need to be replaced. Is there a way to determine whether it is calcium or if the pool liner needs fixing?

Please let me know if anyone has any advice on this.

Welcome to TFP.

First you need to get your test kit and tell us your water chemistry. Get the Taylor K-2006C or TFT Test Kits

Test Kits Compared

You say you have a fiberglass pool but then talk about a liner. You have one or the other.

Tell us your water chemistry from your own test kit and we can go from there.
