What's your current pool temp?

I somehow managed to get mine closed. I needed a new winter cover, so I purchased one on line from swim line. It said 3'over hang, 8yr warranty, blah blah...

Well it is junk! I have about 3" overhang, the cable it came with was about 2' too short! Luckily I still had the cable from my other cover. Then as I was running the cable through the grommets, about 85% off the grommets fell out! JUNK. I might saran wrap it for extra security?

Believe it or not we get ice occasionally in January but rarely does any snow stick to the ground. If it does, it's usually gone within a day or two. And the whole area comes to a screeching halt if there's even a prediction of flurries. People around here don't even know how to drive if it's raining, let alone snowing. And they use dirt to mitigate ice instead of salt, which basically does nothing but make everything dirty.

Around here the temperatures swing wildly during the winter.. one day it could be 40, the next day it will be 80. We had a week of 70s last December. I look forward to using my heater during one of those crazy weeks. But in general I'm expecting my pool season to be April - October so there's really no point in closing the pool. I'm not even going to bother with a cover. The cost of maintaining my pool is low enough that I don't want to deal with any of that.

Today was probably the last day I will be in the pool for a while here in Pinellas County Florida. I put on the aqua jogger and did 20 minutes of running in-place. It was chilly getting in but fine after about a minute. The water temperature has gradually dropped to 80, but we have a cold blast coming in for the weekend. The sunshine exposure is greatly reduced from 3 weeks ago and I expect that the pool water temperature will not recover much after this weekend. I really can't stand water in the mid 70's or colder unless I have really worked up a sweat doing yard work.... and then I might get in for 40 seconds. :)

Currently, my pool temp is too cold! I dont fool with thermometers. Its either too cold or it ain't too cold! My last plunge was a couple of weeks ago on a 89 degree day, and it was too cold then too. I just didnt know it until I dived in!

Im ready for springtime.

56 last night. Getting a bit chilly when I stick my arm in to get a water sample. No cover or real closing here. I was going to stop chlorinating below 60 (first winter in this house), but I'm chickening out -- for a few dollars worth of chlorine a week I'm just going to maintain it as "open" through the winter; it's not using that much now anyway. Have to visit it to clean leaves out of the skimmer basket and cleaner bag every few days anyway. And I can tell people "pool's ready to go if you want to swim!" :)
