What's under my pool liner

I'm considering replacing my pool liner later this year. It's faded and has small rips in the vinyl. I'm pretty handy and feel like I could accomplish the job while saving some money.

Is there a way to determine what the bottom is made of without draining the pool? It's a 18x36 rectangular pool built in 2002. Sand, concrete, vermiculite? Would I be ae to notice a difference by feeling it?

Welcome to TFP! Most likely it is vermiculite. Most inground vinyl pools are. You wouldnt be able to tell the difference between vermiculite and concrete. Sand would be softer and compressible.

As said sand is soft and gives when pressed on. Doesn't make a difference when ordering the liner the measurements are the same. Sand is much harder to install than verm
