Just wondering what your take was on pump speed with a pool heater. We have a Hayward heat pump unit and have just started using it. The goal is to raise the pool temperature as quickly as possible. If you run the pump at a high speed, you move more water, but the water presumably doesn't heat as much because it's going through the heater faster. On the other hand, if you run the pump at a low speed, the water gets hotter because it's spending more time in the heater, but then you're moving less water. A couple of experienced pool owners have said to run it at low speed, but what do you guys do?

The heater puts out a fixed amount of BTUs (heat). The outlet water temperature is higher at a low flow rate then a high flow rate but the same amount of heat is being added to the pool.

The flow rate makes little difference in the heating of the pool as long as it is sufficient to engage the pressure switch.
