We Are Building a Pool!!

The only pick I don’t understand is the hayward filter when everything else is pentair. Pentair often has rebates when you purchase multiple items- maybe they’re out of sand filters?

Good question. I will ask. But- if the Hayward is a good filter I am fine with the incoordination.
I will likely buy an old Pentair load center and gut it and either install a new Pentair control (less likely) or install a home automation control system like is discussed in the thread here at TFP (more likely).

More Food for thought…
The ic60 doesn’t cost that much more than the ic40 & will yield you 50% more chlorine than the ic40 over its lifetime. Its a good upgrade in sunny Texas with your long swim/pool season. The larger the cell the less %/time you need to run it to produce the fc you need & the longer its 7-10k hour @ 100% lifespan will be in people years.

Awesome!! I will request that change! Thank you!!!

On another note - I need to get rid of about 100' of way overgrown pampas grass. Gonna learn how to use a backhoe. The bonfire is where the pool will be.
Thanks for your help!!

Funny, my wife has me driving all over South Jersey looking for Pampas Grass at nursery after nursery. Apparently we are right on the border of where it may or may not survive winter. But, any old ornamental/beach grass wont due now that she's seen Pampas Grass on Pinterest.

Congrats on your pool. The only point I'll add is that in my opinion cartridge filters are a lot easier on pool owners than sand filters. It might be a little more money to purchase upfront, and you will need to replace the filters at some point, but operating ours has been so simple, and I'm thankful to not have to backwash.

This Pampas grass has not been maintained for years. We do not want it next to the pool due to the fluffy stuff, and we do not want to have to maintain it next to the pool for years to come. But I will have to rent a backhoe to dig it up.
I appreciate the thought on a cartridge filter. Been cleaning them on our hot tub for 10 years. (and only a couple in that time.)

I pulled up several pampas grass bundles with a chain and my truck. Probably 10 of em. Yesterday we rented an excavator and I removed probably 10 or 15 more, and cleaned out the others. I'm not talking shrubs here. We are talking 20 year of not maintained invasive species stuff, that is 12' tall. We now have an extra 8 feet between where our pool will be and our fence. We have been converting the pampas grass to smoke, and now the burn spot is about the shape our pool will be.
PB has our down payment and the shell is ordered. He says about 3 weeks to manufacture, so I figure he will start a hole about that time. Got the FD called on us 2 nights in a row. To be fair - 2 nights ago the flames were higher than our house.

Encouraged by the automation thread, I picked up a used Pentair control box (eztouch 8) for $300. It has a load center, which I want. I had planned on doing the diy automation using that cabinet, but when I opened it I found the Pentair network interface. I had planned on running Cat6 to the gear anyway, so if it is easy to integrate the panel and use ScreenLogic might as well save myself the trouble of diy for now.

I have a question about a sleeve in our pool deck. I will need to install a sunshade canopy over our new back patio for a year until we can get the permanent patio built. I want to mount it to 10' galvanized fence posts, and I would like to install sockets in the pool deck for those posts. (we are adding a lot of extra concrete deck). I have found flagpole sockets - which are basically sch 40 pvc pipe. Will the PVC socket, in your opinion, be sufficient for our canopy poles? I plan to install them 2' deep, fully concrete encased. Have you done anything similar? Shoot - here in Texas I am considering adding a canopy that partially covers the pool, too!!

I don’t know about your post/sleeve question but whoo hoo on the dig!!
Nothing like a good pool build time lapse video! Can’t wait to see 🤩

I need to post pics! We have been swimming for 3 weeks. Finally got the deck jets working today. PB will be out installing waterfall/jump rock tomorrow and wrapping things up. He used cheap home Depot valves. I have acquired several jandy style valves and he is willing to put them in for me. My question is - can I use these jandy (actually pentair) valves for flow control on the waterfall and deck jets, or should I use two valves, one for on off and the other for flow control? In my attached picture the valve on the right is for the pool jets. The left is for the waterfall and the middle one is for the deck jets.

There is simply no need for doubles. I'm sure I have, but I can't recall ever seeing this here before. It's like they don't understand how the valve works in the first place, so they need a 2nd valve.

Maybe they're used to their cheapo valves breaking so it must be from partial opens, instead of quality issues, I dunno.

But yeah. Use one quality valve and it won't care what purpose it serves.

Thank you sir. This will be my approach. In this case, with cheap valves, he added the second for "memory" of flow. Probably a good idea with cheap valves. My PB is good, but young and inexperienced in the automation part. I installed a marketplace Pentair automation panel and will have our features controlled by my phone. It is his first experience with that gear. (Maybe he has worked with another brand). But he does what he says he will do and always answers his phone. He has obvious experience otherwise, and has done a great job, paying attention to details I would not have considered.
Next - which direction to put the valves... full of water when off, or empty when off....
