Water softner salt?

Are we able to add water softner salt to a above ground pool that doesn't have a salt generator? If so, is there a kit that will test the salt levels? And, how much salt do we use?

A Taylor K1766 salinity test kit will measure salt levels.

You can add salt to any pool. Try adding 1500 ppm to the pool. Use PoolMath

Not sure you need to test for it, but that is up to you.

After you add salt, do you need to keep testing it, maybe monthly or weekly, to see if you need to add more?

Not really. You are using it for water feel, not to generate chlorine. Only way you lose the salt is due to splash out, backwash, etc.
