Water behind liner

So im new to owning a pool. We bought a house in Mississippi with a pool it's a 20 year house and the pool was probably installed when the house was built. I have water behind the liner whats the best way to deal with that

Traditional in ground or semi inground?

Walls or floor ?

Think it's runoff from the patio or coming up the ground ?

Only after it rains or all the time ?

Traditional in ground and this is the first time it's did it. The pool is closed for winter I haven't opened it for the year yet. Pulled the cover back and seen the liner floating off the walls a little

Is it full to the brim or have you drained it as needed ?

You need to control the ground water.

This might require a well pump to dewater the ground as needed.

What local water is near the pool like a river, lake, pond, stream etc?

What is the pool water elevation relative to the natural body of water?

Can you show pictures of the problem?

Possible Cause other than ground water:
Do you have an overflow line built into the pool?
If not, then water in the pool can rise above the liner track and seep in between the liner and the wall.

Solution:
If this is what's happening, then install an overflow. It's a real pain to do that to an installed pool, but it can be done.

Intermediate mitigation:
If the water is seeping in through the liner track, then the next question is:
Do you have a liner track bead installed?
If not, a liner track bead may help some, but will not entirely eliminate the problem. It's not a long term solution. A track bead is cheap and easy to install.

Check the bottom of this Wiki for a visual how the liner sits relatively loosely in the liner track. If the pool is full, water can seep through the zipper without liner lock forcing it tight.

If this is what's happening, then install an oveoverwflow

You're more than forgiven being from TX, but overflows would need to be winterized with a plug just like the regular plumbing or they'd risk freezing too. Mississipi could go either way.

I seriously debated installing one anyway for the spring and summer when i'm usually draining, but decided against adding another winter fail point.

When they poured my slab before the pavers went in, water was running under the track to get behind the liner, pushing it out as I imagine yours looks.





It could be from the too full pool, deck runoff, or coming up from the ground. We await more info to assess further.
