Hey All! Lots of great info on converting a Pentair Quad 100 DE Filter to use standard cartridges in another older thread (link below), but I'm wondering if anyone has actually successfully done the conversion? And, if so, what model and part number did they end up using?

Original TFP Post on this subject:

I get all the pros/cons of DE vs. Cartridge, but I've had about enough of the DE after years of dealing with it. It's a complete mess and some of the neighboring cities have enacted ordinances with specific DE cleaning restrictions (which is understandable, the stuff makes a mess).

I'll miss the 1-3 micron filtering of DE, but if a Catridge can filter 10 microns, that's good enough for me to give it a shot. I test my pool almost daily and keep things balances 24/7/365. Since moving to TFP haven't had any major issues, so cartridges should work for me I'd think.

Current Quad DE 100 Cartridge Specs:
Pentair
Model # 178656 (OEM)
Outer Diameter (OD) 6.25"
ID 3"
Height 32.75"

Possible compatible replacement I found (one idea):
PleatcoPure
PCC130
OD 7"
ID 3"
Height 32"

I expected the standard cartridge tyle to be a bigger diameter and I think I have room. Not sure on the height though.

Thanks!

That's a fantastic post - very comprehensive - thanks for sharing. Looks like you're in the same boat, in that the outer diameter (OD) is 7" on the CCP cartridges vs about 6.25" for the DE Cartridges. Also, the cartridge style are about 0.75" shorter than my existing as well (no problem there then).

I assume it all fit based on what I read in your post, but just wanted to confirm.
Also, the spreader / manifold all good too?

Great stuff - I can't wait to stop with the DE mess. After years of using DE and doing my best when I clean, you can see it accumulating in the soil.

Pentair uses the same manifold and spreader on both the Quad and C&C filters.

There have been no changes to any of the other Quad 60 parts. All parts fit and assemble as before. I've been DE-free for two seasons and haven't noticed any difference in water quality.

Great news and info - thanks everyone. It looks like the Pentair OEM Part# 179136 cartridges for the CCP 520 (on Amazon) are identical to the Quad DE 100 catridges EXCEPT they are 7" OD and 32" tall. Was thinking of sticking with Pentair OEM and going that route.
