Vegas OB! Just got plans back and need some feedback (pics included :) )

Will, I can't believe how seldom you have to add chlorine or acid to your pool! I went through about 6 gallons of chlorine & 2 gallons of acid in the first month.
I fired up my SWG 4 days ago & I'm loving that!

2 gallons of acid is a little bit of acid as well compared to what I hear people say and also 6 gallons of bleach is not much. Ctrav said he went through 10 gallons already in like 2 weeks.
When my month is done I think I'm right around 2 gallons of acid as well but probably only 4 gallons of chlorine maybe.

So latest test results, I went home on lunch to test real fast so I could get a reading in heat of day to see if things are different. And the only thing that changed was the CH and the TA came back to 120
FC 6
CC .5
TA - 120
CH- 400
PH- 7.5
CYA-50
Temp 84 :(
I'm a little worried about how to keep my TA down if my PH remains stable.... is it possible that I add the MA and my PH remains really low ??
I also added a quart of MA to take TA down and a quart of FC, I want to see if I take it up to 10 will it hold the same or will it jump right down to 5-6

It's a little higher demand than you think..... Ctrav's pool was filled July 1st, so those 10 gallons were used in more like a week's time!

For the results you just listed, what was the water temp?

1. I wouldn't do any experimenting yet without Kim, pooldv, or someone else experienced. I don't think it's a bad thing that you haven't had to add more chemicals than you have. I have a lot more learning to do. I'll help with what I can (how to add chems, etc). But I want others to help you with targets.

2. Did you get your CSI level from Pool Math (are you using the app or the website Pool Math)? That's something I can help with if you need it.

3. Have you printed out or written down these charts? Use them to see what you think your targets should be and verify with someone on here.
Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart
Pool School - Recommended Levels

4. Your TA might be fine according to the charts. You check and then verify on here.

5. To answer your question: "is it possible that I add the MA and my PH remains really low ?" Let me see if I understand the question. You're concerned that if you lower the TA with the MA, your pH might remain too low? If I understood correctly, the answer is no.
To lower the TA, you do add MA which also lowerw the pH. But it's not permanent. To raise the pH back up without raising the TA, you then aerate (with water falls, spa spillway flowing, etc) The pH will go back up, but not the TA.

Your FC looks good to me, but you check the charts and see what you think.

If you have more questions, let us know. I'll answer what I can, and leave the rest to others. You really don't seem to have a problem.

I use the app for the csi. I have looked at the charts and seem to be inline and waters clear so I'm not too worried.
IMAZ helped me with the aeration part so that's what I'm doing now. The question I have is what makes TA rise? The only thing that has really changed on my pool is the TA and everything else moves very slow
As always thanks for your help Mama Suz :)

Will, do you have an auto fill or have you been adding a lot of water from the hose? What is the TA of your house water?

You are getting some super help and learning so much! Love me some TFP help!

Kim:kim:

My autofill seems like it runs nonstop lol. I'm guessing because of the sun and evaporation, I'm actually curious what my water bill will be.
My fill water has a TA of 240 so that makes sense Kim, glad you brought that up. So now I have at least 1 mystery solved, now to continue to dig in about PH and chlorine holding....

If you think it's an error in your testing than I'm sure any of us Vegas TFP users will make a stop to test and stare at the bling in awe. Me and my trash man would be thankful to not have some many MA bottles in the trash every week. I think my pool has slowed down on the consumption but the spillover causes a bit of a rise every night.

That is much appreciated and welcomed at our residence, you can never go wrong with a second set of eyes:). I think I'm testing right but not sure why it's not changing much. I did add some bleach today but the ph was still the same at 7.5, I added some MA only because I wanted to get my TA down.

So more than 24 hours without chemicals and my ph went from 7.2 to 7.3-7.4 and my FC went from 6 to 5.
For anyone who is following I'm going to let the pool be and I will test again tomorrow when it will be 48 hours without chemicals and see where I stand

Just for reference...I've been adding about 30oz of acid (the 29% stuff) twice a day for the past 4 days and my plaster (quartz) is now 7 days old, so my PH goes to 7.6 in 12 hours with no swimmers and has been very consistent. I'm doing about half a gallon of bleach a day, that's about 3ppm loss for my pool with no swimmers, but my CYA just got up to 30 on Thursday and I need to bring it up a little more.

I had my cya at 60 until I fired up the SWG. Now I'm around 75.
I used more acid in the beginning- around 24-32 oz/day.

Will that is very interesting that the ph went up...I am guessing there were swimmers in the pool during this time.

Yep we had swimmers on Thursday which was the last day I added chemicals. I'm going to check later on today and see what my numbers are which will be 48 hours since I added anything.
So far after 24 hours as of yesterday the ph went up .2 and the FC dropped 1ppm. That is a really slow drop on both from what I read. I'll post later on to keep you all updated
On another note from the advice of wasted I turned my filter off during the day and I'm running at night only to see if the water will heat up more. Yesterday there was no change but it do tie the all time high at 86 degrees, I'm hoping today that it works and I can get to 88+.
I did go for my normal 5 mile run this morning and decided to head straight to the back when I was done cause it was already close to 100 degrees outside and jump straight in the pool. Let me tell you it was ice cold Hahahaha but it was refreshing and cooled me off, so I guess this relationship is a give take

Update
So today after 48 hours I tested again and the FC dropped by 1ppm and the PH is almost the same.
I'm going to have a get together tomorrow so I'm going to take the FC up to 10 but this will be the most bleach I have ever added.
Do you think I need to take ph from 7.4 to 7.2 for the party or leave it?
