Variable Speed Pump Schedule - Recommendations?

Hey Everyone - new pool user here.

Pool was finished a little over a month ago and we are working to get the water balanced. Once we reach balance any tips / tricks on the best way to program the variable speed pump to be the most efficient?

10,140 Gallon Fiberglass Pool, Automatic pool cover always in use when not using the pool, SWG IChlor30, 1.5 HP SuperFlo Pump.

My pool builder said the pump should be running at close to 3000 rpm 24x7. I think that's fine as we get the pool to balanced but after researching here it sounds like I can start to adjust or at least program the pump to be more efficient.

Appreciate any insight.

Champ,

As a minimum, you need to run your pump long enough for your SWCG to generate the amount of chlorine your pool needs each day. The slowest speed you should ever run is the speed needed to turn your SWCG on, plus about 100 RPM, just to make sure. Because you have a heater in the flow, my guess is that you will need to run at 1500 RPM or so. No way for us to know, you will just have to play with the speed, while watching the flow light on your cell.

From a scheduling point of view that is all you really need..

You also should set up a speed that turns on your heater, so you can select that speed when you want to use the heater. And, if you have any water features, you'd want a speed for them. If you are going to use some kind of water powered cleaner, then you will want a speed for it.

Do you have an automation system, or are you setting the speeds in the pump itself?

Thanks,

Jim R.
