Hello. I have a discharge leak on my Pentair intelliflow. Fixing to reseal it. When I put the piping back together, I plan to use unions directly screwed into the pump inlet and outlet. I see Amazon and Ebay have a 2 pack from CMP for $24. Pentair also sells them but they are $54 each. Reading reviews on the cheaper ones, some people love them, others say they are not as robust and leak after 9 months.
What say say you guys?

nfs,

Welcome to TFP.. a great place to find the answers to all of your "What do you mean reviews don't mean much?" questions.. :shark:

I have three IntelliFlo pumps that have been running between 4 and 6 years 24/7 using these unions.. https://www.amazon.com/PACK-Hi-Temp-Union-Whisperflo-Intelliflo/dp/B00AKMV4K8/ref=asc_df_B00AKMV4K8/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198092864586&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14897538623522767006&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9027206&hvtargid=pla-349906384064&psc=1

They have never leaked. I would never, ever install a new pump without them.

I read reviews with a very large grain of salt. My guess is that at least 50% of all negative reviews are due to errors made by the user, or just plain buying the wrong "tool" for the job.

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Thanks for the welcome! This is a great site. 2 responses with real experience in a very short time. Glad I found this site.

LOL. GOTTA agree on the negative slant on online reviews.

Thanks again. You guys just saved me $80!

n4s,

The threaded end has an O-Ring and needs no sealant at all.. To me, the whole point of the pump union is for the O-Ring at the pump end. No more leaks around the threads after a few years.

I'm sure the "Rain and Shine" will work just fine.. I personally like "Christy's Red Hot Blue Glue"...

Thanks,

Jim R.
