Upgrading from IntelliTouch i7+3 system

Hi everyone. I have a Pentair IntelliTouch with the ScreenLogic app to control our pool and spa. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the IntelliTouch with an EasyTouch control panel? What I am looking for is the ability to just press buttons outside and have the pool and spa turn on. We have had tons of problems with the Screenlogic system through the years so I would prefer to avoid it entirely. And if I can do that upgrade is that usually something your normal pool cleaner can do or should I look for a specialist? Thanks in advance for your help!

373,

I have had ScreenLogic for about 4 years without any issues.. I'd just as soon junk my whole EasyTouch as go back to using the main panel..

Sorry you are having problems with yours..

Just to be clear... Do you want to upgrade to the new IntelliCenter.. or... do you just want to remove Screen:Logic and go with the Pentair Remotes with buttons?

I am assuming that you want the remotes.. If so, you need to talk with Tom who can tell you what you need... Calling @ogdento ...

Thanks,

Jim R.

You can't use an Easytouch indoor panel on an Intellitouch, but you can get an Intellitouch indoor panel, pentair part 520138. They're about 500 new but they come up used on ebay for 300 or so. If you can shut off your pool panel, run a 4-conductor cable and strip the ends... then it's definitely something you can DIY

You don't want to mount these outside where weather will get to it. I was talking to another TFP user who was going to mount his outside, but in a weather-tight box with a clear hinged lid.

I've got an indoor controller on my system and I love it... easy to use, does everything I need. I had a screenlogic but I never used it ;)

Another thing I just thought of is that if you really need the thing to be outside, a "modified" mobiletouch 1 might work. These are the first generation of wireless remotes, and they come in a weather-tight enclosure that you can take apart (you can't take apart a mobiletouch 2).

It's just an indoor controller connected to a battery, a charge controller, and a wireless transceiver card... so you could easily unplug/remove the transceiver, run a 4-conductor cable through the antenna hole (seal it up), and connect it to the comm port on your i-7. Might need a firmware update on it, but it will do the business. And it'll have a nice retro look ;)

Thanks for your reply! I am not entirely sure what I want. If possible I would love a mechanical button where "pool go on now" because roughly 40% of the time we want to use the pool we can't because I have to call Pentair to start fixing something with Screenlogic, protocol adapter, wireless transmitter, etc. So if we could avoid computers entirely I would enjoy that. We bought the house that already had the pool, which I believe was built in 2014. Basically I would like to have the fewest devices involved as possible with turning on the pool and spa.

Thanks for your reply! That is good to know. I am not much of a DIY'er but that sounds like something maybe our pool guy could do. I think we might be able to put ours outside in the weather-tight box because we live in SoCal without much weather. Just looking to simplify the number of devices involved in turning on our pool (less things to break...). :)

373,

Do you by chance have the original ScreenLogic? It was replaced by ScreenLogic2, which is what I have..

Tell us what kind of problems you have been having?

Thanks,

Jim R.
Thanks for your reply! Our app just says Screenlogic Connect, so I guess that means we have the 1st one? Right now our app can't find the System Controller (but over two years the system has broken on about seven separate occasions, in many different ways). Called into Pentair and they were indicating they thought it was the Wireless Transmitter as the problem this time, though I am fairly sure our system is hardwired in (we bought the house that had the pool, but the entire house was gutted when pool was installed and it seems highly based on what I see that they ran the wire out to the pool system). Basically I would like to avoid all the middle-men of the computer, app, etc and just turn the pool and spa on right at the source.
