Hello All - Starting a new IG pool build in Houston Texas. I've met with 5 builders, both big national and smaller local companies and started narrowing it down. I've attached some of the renderings and would like to get some advice and opinions as I move through the process. We are trying to keep the pool to a specific area in order to leave room for a yard on the side but I'm not sure if it's too small.
The waterline dimensions
26' x 14'
Depth 3.5' to 5.5' or a sport pool with deepest in the middle 3.5'-5.5'-4.5'
5'-6' Length Sunshelf, 9" deep, with 2 bubblers
Spa 7'x7', Raised, 6 Jets (Using the spill area from spa as a water feature)
Raised Wall 12" going to 6", no water feature in the wall
Cool Decking all around
Equipment is still TBD but the builder we are thinking using installs Pentair
Mentioned some Equipment: MasterTemp Heater 400K BTU, Intelliflow 3HP Pump
1. Sunshelf
a. What length should a sunshelf be to fit most pool loungers, would 5' be good are is 6' minimum recommended?
b. Any opinions on shelf depth, we are thinking 9" but not sure if 6" or a deeper 12" is recommended for using pool loungers.
2. Pool size
a. The main pool area would be 20'x14 when you take out the shelf. This seems to be on the small side when comparing to many pools on TFP. Anyone with a similar size have regrets no going bigger.
b. For the depth I originally wanted to do a sport pool with the middle being the deepest, 3.5'-5.5'-4.5', but a couple of the builders said the grade may be too steep/drastic and recommended either make the pool wider or put the deepest on the end.
3. Equipment
a. None of the builders like to use SWG and pretty much say the warranties will not be covered for the decking and plaster if we use salt. I'm really pushing for it so we'll see. What sort of costs increases should I be looking replacing the IC with SWG?
b. Does a different heater have to be used with a SWG?
c. Builder hasn't mentioned what the control center is. Does Pentair have multiple control centers or is Intellicenter the central piece and you have to add things like Intelliconnect to add automations. What do ya'll recommend for automations.
d. They are also including the Pentiar Prowler Cleaner. From what I've read on TFP it's recommended to not get a cleaner from the builder. Are their any specific cleaners that ya'll have used and recommend?
e. Any thoughts on autofill, builder wants to include?
f. I haven't had any discussions about lights. What number would be recommended for this side pool? Would you put a light on the shelf? Any recommendations for models to use if we want automation and color LED?
There are usually discussions about on new pool builds regarding returns and skimmers and drains. The builders primarily say 2 skimmers and 1 return, is this good?
What other big and small items should I be thinking about at this stage?
Thank you for your help and guidance.
