Hi all,

I'm a bit confused and could use some guidance.

The app is telling me to SLAM my pool, but it's clear and I can see the bottom.

Recently, after adding some pH reducer and shock (cal hypo), my pool became cloudy from being crystal clear just moments before. The FC shot up to 11 PPM and stayed there. I emptied about 1/10th of the pool and added fresh water. Here are my new readings from my K-2006 Taylor kit:

  • Cyanuric Acid: 85 (a bit high, hence the water change)
  • Free Chlorine: 2.8 (I plan to shock the pool today to get it up to the target of 10)
  • Combined Chlorine: 0.2 (seems reasonably low, but the app doesn't have a field to log CC)
  • pH: 7.6 (adding pH reducer after it rained seemed to create the cloudiness – should I avoid reducing pH when adding shock?)
  • Alkalinity: 90 (also high; apparently, I need to reduce pH to 7 and aerate)
  • Salt: 1600 (added for feel, as suggested here)
I'm puzzled because the app is telling me to SLAM my pool, but it's crystal clear (per Pool Academy, SLAM is for cloudy or green pools). I think I just need to add chlorine to bring today's levels from 2.8 to 10.

Any guidance would be tremendous. Thank you all!
