Triton Plus with Power Stream vs. Dolphin Echo

Then either get the oasis z5 or the m400.

Oasis z5 is available from epicpoolsypply.com. There is also a $25 off coupon out there, poolreview25 (not my afffiliate, I just found it on web). M400 is in stores only but you can get it by calling Home | Marina Pool Spa & Patio and I believe they are selling it for $999. They have the 2016 model.

Both units are the same with the exception that I believe the m409 has a full filter indicator, which doesn't really matter if you are taking it on a regular basis.

These are the strongest suction units dolphin makes. The m500 just has a 3rd brush and extra timer features, but is lot more money

They scrub floor, wall, waterline. Have 4 large filters and both the mesh like echo as well as fine filter. I use the fine one since I mostly get dirt and grit in my pool. My pool has never been cleaner since using the unit. Not a speck of dirt in the pool. They have a basic remote to set either regular clean or quick clean and allow you to manually control. (You can buy the pro remote separately if you want to be able to add more features like ultra clean or waterline only) They have 3 year warranty. Swivel cord, .05 cents a hour operation. Dual drive motor. And oasis has split brushes, so it turns on a dime instead of making 3 point turns. (I prefer this because I think it misses less)

I've spoken with maytronics a couple of times and they seem to have good customer service. Was told turn around time for warranty is work is 5-7 days total door to door.
Thanks Ump.

I looked into those and back thru the bots on my short list. I really want a newer model dolphin (no float handle). So I was still going with the new Triton Plus, but Amazon raised it $152. Glad they did now, as I found a couple of independant reviews that led me to the Quantum that I had ruled out for reasons I can't recall now. Both reviewers called the Quantum the best that dolphin has made. That one is under a grand and has the dual active brushes.

The m400 is a newer model. I thought the same thing as you with the float handles and that it meant they were older design. The top of the line dolphins all have floats. They are more powerful units, which is what you said you wanted. It's available for under $1000 and has 3 brushes

Everything Ive read says that the newer models have gone away from the floats, as the new jets hold the bots firm to the walls, also the swivels are replaced by software to prevent/lessen tangles. However, Im not shocked to hear otherwise considering the issues Ive had disseminating the small amount of information I can find.

This guy sealed the deal on my decision:

I took a look at the Dolphin Cayman last week, a rebrand of the Active 20, and this week I will be taking a trip down memory lane again, this time with Dolphin’s rebranded Active 30, the Dolphin Quantum. The only problem with the Active series, with the exception of the 10, was the price. I understood why they were priced so high, but still, it was enough to make it difficult to recommend. The Quantum, and by extension all of these Active rebrands, fix that issue, and whjat we are left with is probably the best robotic pool cleaner in the world.

Im trying to see the difference in suction. It says M400, M500, and Z5 each have a 4233 gph pump. Quantum's language is different, so may be apples to oranges. But it says it filters 75 gpm (or 4500 gph). Maybe rounding up, or filter may affect rate?

The quantum is the same unit as the S300, Active 30 or 2017 Triton Plus with power stream. They all have the same exact pump. Difference is colors and a couple of feature (triton plus doesn't come with caddy). The quantum is branded for a private company, the Triton plus is for internet sales, s300 for B&M pool stores and the Active30 for Pool Companies. If you really want the quantum, which I think is a good unit, get the Active 30i from Home | Marina Pool Spa & Patio They are selling that unit, brand new, for $899, free shipping and no tax (unless you live in their state) That is the top of the line in that series. It has all the features of the quantum plus Advanced bluetooth to allow you navigate the unit, select cleaning modes like floor only, wall only, floor and wall and ultra clean. It comes with both standard and fine filters and the ability to use both at the same time. Most importantly it has a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty that includes the filters and traction belts. The filters alone are $99 and the traction belts are $40. And if you want the top of the line, the best Dolphin makes is the M500, and I believe Marina sells that for $1099. That unit has 3 brushes, advanced bluetooth and 3 year warranty. In the end the best 3 that Dolphin carries are the Oasis z5, M400 (M4) and M500 (m5). To me, the extra year warranty is worth it alone.

Marina won't sell the unit on the internet, but you can buy it by calling and placing a phone order. Also, take most of the reviews online with a grain of salt and rely on the forums and people who own these units. Most of the review sites are nothing more than affiliates or Pool companies disguising themselves as a reviewer with a link that points to their site.

I don't have a dog in the fight. I am just a coupon/saver at heart who always wants to see people get the most for their money. When I believe in a product, I will tell everyone about it.

Crapple dapple! You anger me! Just cancelled (I hope) my quantum and 4 year extended warranty. I wish I wouldn't have ignored the ding of your post, as they have Sunday hrs. Until 4. I just missed them. BTW I just noticed Amazon just dropped the price of my 1st choice--2017 Triton Plus back down again. Oh well. I still have my Echo, and I finally talked to the store about its shortcomings. Im going to see about an exchange/upgrade if they balk on a refund. They want to send a guy here to find (I assume) something about my setup to blame. So even if my store is higher, that'll save me hundreds. Those ummmmm fellows want $1350 for the M400. They only carry in stock the Echo and the M400.

JK of course about the anger. I appreciate your advice.

I hope I helped. If you can get a refund, give Marina a call. The a30i is a step over the triton plus and it comes with a caddy and better warranty.
Yep, thats the new plan. No Triton, it only has one "active" brush. Thats why I went to the Quantum. The b&m prices are what's kept me from the Active series. So, your advice is very helpful. Im still skeptical, as is my nature. I dont see anyone selling the a30i so cheap.

In case no refund, is the s300i the same? Local b&m doesnt carry a30i.

Yes. The a30i and s300i are the same unit, just different colors. The s series is sold by brick and mortar pool stores and the active series is primarily sold by pool companies. Marina is a huge dealer and repair center so they sell both. There are a lot of people on this forum who have purchased from them.

I dont believe the quantum has dual dual active brushes though, it a dual drive, which means one motor for pump and one for drive. As far as I know, the front brush is active. That means it runs faster than the back one, that's how all the dolphin units are. You can check with maytronics to be sure. Even the m400 and 500 only have one active brush out of the 3.

i hope it works out for you. If you get the full refund, you have lots of options. A30i, m400, m500. All in that $900-$1100 price range through marina. Or you can go with Oasis z5 for $975, which is same as m400. Anyway you go you get a better unit and warranty even if you have to pay a small restocking fee for a refund, it may be worth it

Thanx for the follow up.

My confidence in this purchase seems to decline in direct proportion to the amount of input/info absorbed.

I was just comparing the DTPlus 2017 vs. Quantum. And according to the sunplay list the Quantum is the same as the active 30 as well. However, the other article showed several differences. The Quantum has 2 active brushes, while the DTPlus has 2 brushes and only 1 is active. Quantum a swivel vs. DTP anti-tangle software. Quantum no remote/bluetooth capabilities.

Trying not to get hosed by another bad choice has crossed into obsessionville.

Hahahahaha! So true. The model names, numbers and minute variations between these gadgets is mind-boggling. It's almost as if it's deliberately designed to confuse consumers.

Talked to the local b&m store i bought the echo from. He said the a30i (only other robotic he carries) wouldn't do any better than the echo and he'd give me a refund. We'll see when I take it back tomorrow. I then called Marina and she's recommending the m400/500. So, hope is on the horizon.

I got a full refund on the echo. So, after calling maytronics to triplecheck what I've learned, I ordered the m400 from Marina. Thanks once again Umpmanjoe. Your info was very helpful. It was $999 and I should be eligible for the $75 Dolphin Days rebate once I register the unit.

HUGE difference in suction and performance. With the echo, I could faintly see surface water displacement when it was in the 3' area. The M400's water displacement is dramatic. Makes approximately a 6' diameter ripple when in the 8' end.

I havent even started learning how to use all of the features. Ive ran 3 cycles over the last 4 days. The first cycle clogged up the filters, as it is very efficient and the pool was pretty dirty. After the second cycle the pool was cleaner than after 30 or 40 cycles with the echo. ZERO leaves left behind. The dual drive/split brushes are awesome. It turns like a tank, so not alot of wasted maneuvering. I will add that the filters are more difficult to deal with than the basket style of the echo, but at least they are top loading.
