Too Many Options for a Pool in Hamilton

Tony411LA - My wife would love the grand stairs. I agree it would be spectacular. But for safety and trying to manage the budget, we had to limit the size unfortunately.

My 2 cents worth.

We steered away from SWG, it definitely has it's advantages but we discovered after talking to our neighbors that the salt does damage to the coping and grout over time. SWG is easier to maintain, that's true. The chlorine pucks are a no-no in our household unless the CYA levels have gone down, and even then unless it's winter time I add CYA on my own.

My neighbor adds bleach on a daily basis, but as an engineer I'm way to lazy to do that. :)

We hooked two stenner pumps into the iAquaLink control panel that can be controlled by the iPad. The stenner pumps are activated for a predefined period each day (chlorine is added 3 times a day and acid is added once per day). It's working great so far, just add chemicals to the 15 gallon containers hooked to the pumps every two weeks.

If you don't have any stone around the pool and it's not close to any windows or other home items (unless you have the anode) then SWG might be just fine.

Just some lessons we've learned. Enjoy your new pool.

Hi,
I’m new to the pool scene! Could you elaborate on this issue with a SWG being too close to a house a little? We are considering a pool with equipment next to the house. Is there something wrong with it being near a window or “other home items?”
 
SWCG and salt pools do not damage stone, coping, furniture, grout, etc. Poorly maintained water chemistry does harm all those items. Many people had been sold SWCG as maintenance free. They are not. The pH must be controlled. Very high or low pH will damage all those items.

Hey. I’m skimming threads while I am eating. I noticed something in ur first posts about plumbing. Ur suction side lines. From skimmer/skimmers and bottom drains. They r all home runs right? Drains tied together, 2 inch back to pad with valve. Skimmers home run also. Not anywhere connected to drains. Skimmers each have own valves to control on own along with drains on own.

So everything is home run. Don’t tie drains into skimmers.

Sorry if if I missed it. Just wanted to get that out.

Salt is ur choice. We all have our thought on it. I wouldn’t go any other way.

Maintain ur chemical balance. Period. I check 2 times a day when really hot out. When not hot 1x day. I know it’s over done but to do ph with drops and spin ur chlorine test it takes like 5 mins. It’s all about balance and staying in range. If you fall out get it back in range. Ph is so important. Chlorine obviously too but people who don’t watch their levels as close as we do here will say ph isn’t a huge deal. I think it is.
