Thanks @mknauss @Dirk - I understand that part of water always being there.
I will try to scope out removal of the giant box as I dont use it, also its manually chlorinated pool and not SWG - unless I understood something wrong

@1poolman1 - yes I see a hole drilled, I was not sure about the reason to why someone did it before we acquired the house, now makes sense.

for the leak, I have taped it using flex tape and hose clamp for now, as I had those tool handy. If that doesnt not help I will go the coupling route.

My bad, I'm getting the threads I'm in this morning mixed up. I meant for the SWG you're going to own! And if you have a single-speed pump, then it's kinda a moot point. But eventually you'll have a variable speed pump (when your existing single speed poops out) and an SWG, so it'll matter more then.
