i have a 10x20x 3' deep wade pool. concrete floor, concrete block walls that i initially painted. the pool paint stained and did not holdup very well. i would like to tile the pool and i have removed the paint, Grinding it off and am now down to the block surface again. Do i need to sand blast the surface?

My plan is to acid wash and pressure wash the pool. Then use Redgard to water proof it. then start tiling. we have picked out a glass tile.

My first concern is getting the blocks prepped before waterproofing.

Does anyone see any issues here? I keep reading I need to sand blast the surface.

Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

I would think that grinding roughens up the surface the way sand blasting does as long as your grinding has complete coverage.

For reference here is the current recommended glass tile installation process from Oceanside Glass & Tile...

Thanks for the feedback.
small change in plans, before using redgard, i am going to use SGM Bond Kote. Then i will apply redgard, before tiling.
Question about tile, i read that glass is not as durable as porcelain or ceramic. is this true? it seems there are much more glass options than the others?
all the suggested glass tile thin sets come in small bags only?

Glass tiles are more prone to fracturing, cracking, and chipping than porcelain tiles. Keep extra tiles to replace anyone’s that break over time.

Thanks!
I have purchased all of my materials and will start once everything arrives.

See attached pic for what it looks like today. The pool has been grinded clean, muriatic acid washed and then pressure washed.

step 1 - Valcom Restructor
step 2 - SGM bond kote
step 3 - Redgard - s coats
Step 4 - CBP glass thin set mortar
Step 5 - glass tile
Step 6 - CBP Prism
Step 7 - Aquamix sealer choice gold

We live in a VERY remote area of West Texas, so most of my materials have to be ordered, there is one place that carries Custom Builders Products that is readily available. No pool supply place unless i go to San Antonio (4 hrs away)

Everything i do is DIY, so i appreciate your patience.20241102_081106 (Medium).jpg

using above ground pool pump, three lines in the hillside of the pool. Hill is not walkable near the pool then the slope becomes more gradual. the pool is 10x20x4. no skimmer, but we do have an electric pool sweeper.
we do not use a water softener, but we have a whole home water filter setup for the water that we use in the pool. what would be the best tile?

Water filter does not remove calcium. What is the CH level of the tap water?
Porcelain tile is easier to clean waterline scale off of.
