Since Hydrogen is lighter than air, you likely can gather a bit up in a bag or bowl and then try it. See my comment elsewhere about the test tube being propelled through a suspended ceiling. But honestly I had it set up to put off oxygen at the same time, so that greatly intensifies the fun...
