SWCG recommendation?

I wonder if my buddy isn't managing his SW pool correctly then. He is dumping in MA all the time. Or at least he makes it sound this way. I seen like 8 gallons of the stuff in his garage. He's on his 3rd summer with his pool
Tell your friend to remove the acid bottles from his garage. It will corrode his garage door opener and other metal objects. MA should kept in a plastic box (such as RubberMaid) outdoors and not accessible by children.

What is your friends TA level? If it is above 100 (which most pool stores recommend), it will allow pH to rise faster. The TFP recommendation is to have TA in the 60-80 level which reduces pH rise.

If he isn't following TFP methods, it would be like comparing apples to oranges.

And every pool is different. Two pools, right next door to each other with the same exact particulars (builder, finish, equipment, install date) will react differently. One may not have much pH rise while the pH in the other rises quickly.

Brant,

If you do not yet have the IntelliCenter, then you need to get the IntelliCenter that comes with the built in SWCG power center and IC60 salt cell..

Idiots or not, Saltwater pools are cheaper and easer to maintain.. The 'extra' cost for MA is in the noise if you maintain your pool using the TFP pool care methods.

I have three saltwater pools in the DFW area.. And I don't have any 'other' costs... What other costs are there???

Thanks,

Jim R.
Jim, if I wanted to install a chlorinator (tab feeder since i already have it) and a salt cell both in the plumbing, would I install the cell upstream or downstream of the feeder? I assume upstream with a chemical resistant check valve between them.

If I install a SWG, I'm thinking of installing the feeder for a backup chlorinator if the cell was to fail and it took some time to replace. I figure since I already have the feeder. Or should I just use a floating tab holder in the event that I use tabs for a temporary backup chlorinator?

Cell then Chlorinator. However a floater is much simpler and no potential leaks.
