We've been unable to get the back cover off the current motor to find out - the beast is straight out rusted on. But I realized what this could be - at one point in life prior to us living here, the owners had a hot tub. I think when they got rid of it, he pulled the motor from the hot pump and just threw it in the box in the basement. I was hoping he bought it for the pool, with the expectation of swapping out the existing old pump motor and just never got around to it but I feel as if my expectations were too high :-(

Look at the circuit breaker that powers the pool pump circuit.

Ok here’s what we got. We also have a box out by the pool that controls power to the pump. The bottom 2 circuits on the box belong to the pool 38 and 40. The two above it were the hot tub.

But the more I look, the more I think it's the old hot tub motor. If my research is right, the serial number of BN8-28 on Century products means it was made August of 1995. The house was built in 1994 and the pool was built in 1999 so it would make sense the hot tub went in around the same time.
