Hi, I'm a relatively new pool owner, and I'm trying to solve a noise issue.
We have what I think is a Pentair skimmer, not sure exactly which model (we inherited the pool with the house purchase, and I've done just enough research to be dangerous). In any event, it has a plastic tab with a hole in the center, right above the weir door to the skimmer. It looks like this, circled in the photo:

I suspect that this is meant to stop the weir door from flapping out into the pool. However, what it mainly does, is when the pump is off, and whenever a small wave or bit of wind makes the door move, it makes the weir door hit the tab, and makes a horrible clacking sound over and over. However, as it just grazes the door, it doesn't actually stop the door from flapping out into the pool. The door is in good shape, though, and the float inside the door seems to keep is mostly upright, and any debris inside the skimmer.
The main concern for us is the noise. It really is a horrible clacking sound, and I need that to stop. Of course, I want it to continue working properly.
I seem to have two potential solutions:
Thanks!

I seem to have two potential solutions:
- Shave or sand down the tab so that it stops contacting the door. The door seems to float upright, as it should, so this shouldn't be a real issue (according to my pool cleaner guy), and will stop the noise. Additionally, since it just barely grazes the tab, there is some fear that at some point it might wedge against the tab and cause the skimmer to run dry, and allowing the door to freely swing will prevent that possibility.
- Perhaps there is a rubber stop or something that is meant to secure into that hole in the tab, and then there would be a piece of rubber hitting the door instead of the plastic tab, so it would at least be quieter and less clacky? I have looked on the Pentair website, though, and don't really see such a rubber stop. However, I'm very crafty, and feel like I could design and 3D print one out of TPU, or otherwise manufacture one out of rubber or silicone.
Thanks!
