I have a 10K pool in Houston, TX. The backyard has many trees, so I get a lot of leaves and lots of sun, too. It’s all Pentair equipment, and the filter pump is an intelliflow. I load a Stenner pump monthly with 12% bleach and struggled quite a bit to control algae before this setup. The problem is sourcing bleach and the price ($3.5 / gal). I have to drive an hour to pick up the bleach. I am caving, planning to bite the bullet, and installing an SWG. The local installer recommended IC40 ($3.2K). Should I go for an IC60 instead? In the dead heat of summer, I need about seven gals of 12% bleach per month to keep the pool from turning green.
Did any of you convert your bleach delivery to an acid-dosing system? Thank you in advance.

2,

You have a 10K pool, so a 20K cell would work, but a 40K cell would work better.. In my mind a 60K cell is more than you need. Keep in mind, that cells can die from many things that are not related to the amount of chlorine they can generate..

None of the reason you list for having algae, actually have anything to do with why pools get algae...

Most people don't 'need' an acid dosing pump.. I'd keep it around just in case, but adding a little acid once a week is not a very hard thing to do...

Thanks,

Jim R.
