Hey Guys,

I leave my pool open in the winter. Should I swap out my IC40 for a dummy cell during the months the pump is on and the IC40 is in a cold water status? Would that extend the life of the cell, or does that time not have a negative effect on the cell's lifespan?

Thanks
LJ

Not necessary.

If properly winterized there is no difference in life span.

My cells have sat out in NJ winters for 30 years with no adverse effects.

@ajw22 he doesn’t close and winterize his pool, it runs all winter.
Good question Iceman07. Below is the suggestion from the owners manual. I never took mine off when I lived in Georgia and ran the pool all winter and rarely had a freeze, but I closed the pool in Tennessee because it did freeze in Nashville.

Thank you guys, I appreciate the information JodieM. Sounds like the cold water mode does not negatively affect the cell's lifespan with the pump running. I live outside of Memphis and we do get freezing weather occasionally. My first winter with the new pool was the worst winter we have had in a while with temps around 1 degree F. The pool survived my ignorance with a little luck. I did cover the pump pad with a tarp including an incandescent light.

As they say luck doesn't strike twice. I'd recommend you become educated with your set up and have a plan in place should the need arise and not depend on luck which basically means buy ahead of time the necessary hardware such as winter plugs etec ........
