I'm two weeks into my startup on a mini-stonescape finish. The guy that is doing the startup (hired by the PB) hasn't been around this week due to the holidays and I think the PH is really high right now (it's off the chart on the Taylor kit and read 8.6 at a pool supply store, though it did read Accucheck strips read 7.8.) I was wondering if I should wait until the guy gets back on Monday or put some MA in this weekend. I don't want to do anything to void my warranty but I wasn't sure what could happen with potentially high PH either. Any suggestions?

If I do add PH is there any trick to it? Do I just pour it in the pool or do I need to dilute it first?

Keep the pH in the 7’s. Assume it is 8 and target 7.6. Use PoolMath for amounts. Add the acid at the return stream. Pump running. Add in a pencil sized stream. Use your brush to move the water around in that area after adding.

Let pump run 30 minutes and retest. Keep doing it until you test pH in the 7’s.

Congrats on the new pool. Which Taylor kit are you referring to? The entire K-2006C test kit, or just the simple K-1000 that does chlorine (yellow) and pH (red)? If you don't have the full K-2006C, then I'd recommend the TF-100 with Speedstir. You''ll find the best bargain with that one and fantastic accuracy. Test Kits Compared
