Starting the Journey after the Pool Guy spurned me

Certain units are hard to come by these days and I bet he can't get them. Or he is charging the IC40 price for the lesser cousin IC30. The IC20 / 40/ 60 are the more robust units than the 15/30 and I would personally wait for the better models.

I think if I couldn’t find a pool specialist to install the equipment you‘re buying, I’d look for a plumber. It’s basically a plumbing job. Then, if there is some electrical work you‘re not comfortable with, hire an electrician. I’m lucky enough to know some guys who would do this kind of stuff on the side. Might want to ask around. HVAC guys are usually good with plumbing and electrical too.

Here are the tile pics. Most areas have just the white gray build up, but some have black as well. This spot of black is the worst area. How should I deal with this? Brushing hasn't done much.

Call around to tile cleaning services in your area. That’s some pretty thick scale and it’s dirty from the brick coping above it. It’s going to need to be glass bead blasted off.

So far the one pool tile guy who called me back quoted $975 to $1075 depending on which media he ends up having to use . Wasn't expecting that! Trying to get more quotes

Last time I had it done was pre-pandemic, maybe 5 years ago. It was $5 per linear ft of tile plus a $40 service charge which he explained as basically his version of the trip/fuel charge (his compressor ran off gas). Media was kierserite (MaxxStrip is the brand ... careful Googling that term at work or around small children  ). I'm not a fan of kierserite so next time I will request glass bead even if they charge more.

Not sure if its the best way, i had some nastiness in my pool like thay a while back and i hit it with some undiluted muriatic acid (20°baum) and scrubbed with a brush. It worked relatively well. Mind you my pool was at a ph of 7.8ish so the acid didnt drop the water to a unsafe ph when cleaning. I also used safety glasses and chemical resistant gloves and only let the acid dwell on the surface for a second or two before scrubbing it off. It took an appreciable amount of time and a few applications, but it worked.

I should have gotten more info. I asked him and he said it was salt based. I'm still cleaning it from the pool, you can see what looks like sand in the close up photo.

Sounds like kierserite (magnesium sulfate) media. Best to vacuum that out to waste as much as you can. Sulfates aren’t great for pools. If you can drain a little a refresh with clean water, that would be advisable.
