First post here. I have checked other spider gasket posts but none have answered my specific questions/issues. I'm attaching several pictures for reference. Thanks in advance for any help.
I have an older sand filter/valve port that I inherited with my house, so I don't have any of the original manuals. As you can see, the label on top of the valve port has mostly worn off, and I haven't found any labeling on the piece to tell me what model it is. The filter itself is a Splash Pak by Jacuzzi Bros. SS160 as shown.
I started getting a leak a few weeks ago from the backwash hose. Did some googling and attempted to replace the spider gasket with the Hayward SPX0710XD - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VTG8K2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It seemed to fit alright but definitely was thicker than what was in there. I figured this is because the old one had worn down, but when putting the cover back on, it was a much tighter fit. Now when I turn the handle, the handle no longer sits down in each slot, seemingly because the rubber from this gasket inside is sitting too high -- and I still had a leak. I opened and adjusted again yesterday to make sure I didn't install it incorrectly, the gasket wasn't as snug as I'd hoped in one spot. I closed it back up, still very tight, handle still sits too high, and although the leak is less, it's still a leak.
I had also contacted inyopools.com and sent them pictures, they told me I definitely had the Hayward SP714T and that I needed this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NJO42Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I tried installing this yesterday but it's not the right fit for my valve port. My valve port has the seated gasket, this one they sold me has the gasket on the top piece.
I'm looking for some help/direction on whether I have the right gasket replacement and I'm just missing something, or if someone can please weigh in and direct me to the correct spider gasket, maybe one that isn't as thick, for my valve port. I'd even buy a new valve port if push came to shove but since I don't know what model I own I'm very hesitant to keep buying parts from the internet that I have to return. I know this is a very old model but since it still works really well, and I just bought a new pump this year, I don't see the point in getting a new filter unit.
