Just to confirm (and since I haven't seen anyone ask in a while)...you're still running your filter 24/7 during the process, correct?

and you have no more than 1 ppm loss of FC overnight. Test right at dark, then again the next morning before the sun hits the pool.
FC maintained at 20 all night, CC is down to 1 .... the water is looking more clear. But I still can't see the bottom of the pool

Make sure you are backwashing the filter when it's pressure reaches 25% higher than clean pressure. Read Maintenance and Cleaning of Pool Filters for detailed instructions.
I think that still sounds normal. Cloudy (not hazy) water can take a long time to clear with a sand filter after all the algae is dead.
