Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia ??

Are you letting the boys back in the pool? I bet they are bummed when they could not get in while you were trying to figure out where the water was coming from.

Kim:kim:

No, I could but would prefer to keep the pool as clean as possible while the pump is off and there’s no circulation. They’re really good about it. It helps that it’s quite cool here at the moment.

THAT ^^^^^^^^^^^^ makes my heart happy as it shows some good parenting happening from the very beginning!

Kim:kim:

Thanks Kim. Yes, we put the hard yards in when they were toddlers. My second was much harder to tame! They both learnt that we mean what we say which I think is key. No point whinging if it doesn’t get you what you want. Not wanting to start a debate as each to their own, but we have never had to smack them despite being very open to it (must admit number two came very close numerous times)! We constantly get compliments when we’re out in public about their good behaviour. I must admit that I’m not looking forward to the teenage years... I may well have a very different story to tell in 12 months time but at least I’ve enjoyed their childhood [emoji23]

You found the proper way........say it and stick with it! All it takes is ONE time of "giving" in to whining, begging, or throwing a fit and you are DONE for quite a while until they figure out that one time was a mistake to never be repeated. Good job MOM and DAD!

Now lets get the leak fixed and those boys back in the water!!!

On a positive note, the painters came today to repaint the back and side of the house that was destroyed during the pool build. It looks amazing! It’s the same company who painted our house inside and out seven years ago. The rest of the paintwork is in great condition... just dirty.

SR Smith came and replaced the warped section of slide and took the rest apart to fit a gasket that was missed when pb installed it originally. They are the loveliest company. They didn’t have to do this and were here for 4 hours +. They even went up to Bunnings to her parts to redo the end water connection as it leaked. I am so grateful for their service.

Oh and can’t forget the garage door motor died two days ago. After replacing it not that long ago we went with a different company and they were lovely too.

So 3/4 today. Trying to stay positive and fight the urge to either cry or maim someone!

OH NO!!! When do they think they will be able to fix it? Is it covered by warranty? Many adult words being thought for you right now!!!!

Love to hear you are up on the three things though. Glad to hear something is going right!

So in the last picture I see something??? sticking out from the wall. It looks like the painter would have a hard time walking under it. What is that?

Yes all covered under warranty. Yes many adult words thought but not said. Pb will wait for full report before a definite plan of attack is formed. I won’t go into what was discussed today as I can’t really think about it right now or I might internally combust. The leak is along the hot water line like I thought. At first he tested it via the boost pump and said it seemed ok. I said I was certain it was there and he tried again and bingo. The main drains (or whatever sucks water in) are now bunged up so the leak should stop apparently. I guess as my eldest said at least we have somewhere to live, running water and food to eat unlike 75% of the worlds population. So there you go. Perspective.

That’s the clothes line that is never used lol. Everything goes in the dryer lol. I put it up for them to paint around. It looks much lower here than it actually is. I’m 5’8” and can just stand under it... theoretically speaking of course as it doesn’t happen lol.

Can anyone tell me if these are date codes on my LC? I have been dosing by hand and want to check my LC is ok. It seems to be working ok but would like to know how old it is. Water is still great. Even at night with no pool light and no circulation filtration for 4 + days. Obviously this is the least of my concerns but I can’t bring myself not to look after it. Would a sub pump be worth getting? If it will help I can pick one up tomorrow. Assuming I will need to slam once this is over with but will do my best to keep going for the time being.

At least the $$$ variable is out of the equation then.

At the end of the day, it can and will be fixed - a few years down the track enjoying your pool and you will look back on it as just a minor hiccup...

Probably handy - Not all that expensive and can be put to good use such as 'now' to keep your water circulating.

I purchased one from Bunnings a while back - They have a fairly large range.

Absolutely! As long as it is all as it’s should be after the fact I will be happy enough. I just hope they don’t cause more problems by fixing this one. Pb said that if they need to drain they will do the start up. Took everything I had not to say thats what I was afraid of [emoji15]

Will stop after work and grab a pump. Was tossing up getting one a while ago when you were talking about it but forgot all about it. Guessing they come with instructions?!

Never did manage to get my pump lid off. Now might be the time with everything switched off.

Any news on whether your pavers have arrived in SA yet? Come on spring! Well for those of us who have swimmable pools [emoji23]

They are pretty basic - Throw it in the water makes sure it is submerged and connect power as far as using it just for circulation. You could lay it down on its side or at an angle (resting on something) if you wanted the outlet directed to a particular area.

The Ozito one I purchased does come with a float switch which may come in handy some day but for circulation it will not matter.

Yes...!! Being delivered this Friday apparently.....:kim:

BTW - We reached 26 degrees today..... pity my water temp was not up there as well.....

Spring is certainly not too far away now.

Thanks for the pump info. I didn’t end up picking one up today but will next trip to Bunnings (read very soon). I had been thinking of the plumbing set up at work and realised that the bungs were only placed in the intakes for the heat. The leak guy had mumbled something about being able to use the pool just not the heat pump. It didn’t click yesterday that I could run my pool pump when he said this. Shot pb a message telling him what I was doing. No reply telling me not to so I raced home after work and turned the pump back on. It remembered all my settings after 5 days. Ph was reading 8.5 ouch. It can’t have been like that for long. Didn’t bother with pool maths and immediately dumped 500ml of acid in front of a return. Fifteen minutes later reading 7.7. Phew. Could all be in vein if they drain but not wanting to ruin my plaster or look at a swamp in the meantime. Pb coming out tomorrow to look at options. I’ve just scrambled to beg work to be home for his visit. Also noticed a couple of black marks on the pool floor. They weren’t there yesterday afternoon when I left the leak guy in the pool checking the other lines. I have a feeling they might be rubber from the dry suit he had on. They don’t budge or brush off. Fingers crossed they come off easily. Also cross your fingers for me that the pb is willing to explore options other than jack hammering out a section of my pool.

That is excellent news that your pavers have arrived! Just in time for the nice weather. We have a few warm days coming up but currently still 23 ish. Probably a good thing with the pool out of action. You’ll be able to put your solar on shortly hopefully. I bet your daughter is excited about summer. Our kids are all going to have so much fun.

Tentatively happy. Pb thinks the leak is just under the edge of the slab. Should be an easy repair. If it’s further in he doesn’t think it’s far in at all and they can do an internal repair. Surrounding pipes will need to be cut to get to it but should be able to be done without even lifting any pavers. One day job aiming for early next week. I would prefer to be here though so have said if it can’t be next Mon/Tues I am happy for it to be the following. Happy for them really to do whatever is needed as long as it doesn’t mean a drain or a plaster patch. I swear he did a double take at my water lol. It was in all its glory in the midday sun and leaving the pump running last night gave it nice added sparkle. I think I might cry with happiness after all the dramas. I am very grateful for how seriously the pb has taken this. Replying to my messages quickly even at 8.30pm on a Friday night.
