Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

I don't know a safe distance for storing acid away from metal and think of it a bit differently. If the jug gets hot, it will vent through the cap to eliminate any risk of bursting. So I keep the sun off the jugs. Mine is very close to a metal shed, but covered to keep sun off. I wouldn't keep it inside the shed, because then even small amounts of venting might accumulate. Some keep it in a white 20 litre bucket with a lid. I think that's a good idea too, but would still keep it in a shady spot. I do my measuring away from the shed.

Hey its fun watching your quick progress now. I'll bet the kids swim in it this winter, no matter what temperature!

Thanks for the advise. That makes sense. I think I have a good location in mind after what you have said.

My oldest son says if it’s cold, he will definitely have one swim when it’s ready to go, but he is not sure if he will swim again until the outside temp warms up. My youngest I know will be in there rain, hail or shine. He is a little fish and at 6 has a much nicer stroke than his 11 year old brother... in fact he’s about to move up to the same level at swimming lessons, which will be interesting. He’s a skinny thing though and turns blue if it’s too cold, but won’t get out until we make him. We will have the heat pump though.. for my benefit as much as his.

Big jobs for us all done. Just need to concrete the cuts in the path, remove our new fence palings and top up the river rock around the pool. Action day is Thursday so fingers crossed for no rain.

The unfenced pools are SO scary to me!!! It all depends on the area and their rules. Some rural areas have not rules so.............pool out in the open :( NOT cool! I have a double fence even though I am not required to have any fence. My whole property (6.5 acres) is fenced and the pool and pool yard is fenced.

It scares me too Kim. It’s so good to hear your pool is fenced even though you are on a large property and not required to do so. Here our regulations are very strict. There are exceptions, but these basically relate to very large rural properties, where the pool is located more than a certain distance from the house. I would say though that the vast majority of these properties still fence regardless, as you have. It’s not just protecting your own kids, it other kids too. I think one reason glass fencing here has become so popular is because it’s impossible to scale. Aluminium fencing is also popular, but I’ve seen very coordinated kids use their toes to scale up and over, even though the fence met all regulations. It’s these kids who scare me the most as they will always find a way. There were two year old twins a couple of years ago who worked together to carry and sack plastic kiddie furniture to reach the lock. They both died unfortunately.

Not much to report. Ordered a lockable plastic storage cabinet for the MA. There are three suitable locations I have in mind for it.

Also ordered a UV awning for our equipment area. We don’t have the space for a shed, so hopefully this is better than nothing.

Hubby filled the two cuts in our concrete path yesterday. The dogs do not appreciate having to be confined while it sets, but I’m sure they will appreciate that when it’s dry they no longer fall a foot down into the holes as they run past. Surprised neither has broken anything. Will let them on it in the morning.

That’s about it. Just need to spread a bit more river rock and remove the fence palings on our side boundary fence and we’re ready for Thursday when they’ll be fencing and the electrical final fit and heat pump goes in.

The plastic storage cabinet is a great idea... Even though it looks like it is designed for outdoor use, you might want to try and keep it out of the sun as much as possible.

Yeah, a little home just for the acid. It will be mostly shaded in any of the three spots I go with.

Are they there yet? No idea what time it is for you. It’s 7.40am here.

LOL - Still dark over here... was about 6:50am when I posted above, current time is 07:14am.

Too excited to sleep in...!

Lift is scheduled for 12:30pm so the crew should be here around lunch time.

I've never heard of a glass fence. Sounds awesome! You'll have to post pics when it's done.

We're just getting the common mesh fence here. When I mentioned glass my wife got excited, but then remembered that we have a 1, 2, and 3 year old and that it would be covered in fingerprints in no time.

How’s the weather?

We had a small thunderstorm just pass to the south of Adelaide this morning - Just some drizzle at the moment, should clear up later.

I also have a guy coming around this morning to tile the pool equipment room.

These days they seem quite common down here in Aus.

Sounds like good timing then if they are coming around lunchtime. Such a quick and easy process (well your actual pool install, not all the work you have been doing yourself).

It’s very popular here in Australia. Most people will opt to have at least one or two sides glass. Our pool fencing regulations are very strict, so the fence is a necessity. I guess people want to make it look as inconspicuous as possible. It is non climbable, unlike the aluminium fencing that some strong kids are able to scale. It also provides an unobstructed view of the pool and what’s in it. You can get products to apply to the glass like rainx to stop marks sticking to it. Will post pics on Thursday after it’s in.

Our installer suggested leaving the glass alone with no treatments, and we're glad we did. The only marks we get are from sunscreen around the gate, plus occasional bird or bat poo. During and after swimming we see some salt dried on the glass from splashes. If it doesn't rain, the dried salt remains but lessens over time, maybe from dew. We haven't cleaned it in three seasons and after a good rain it looks as good as new.

It's super strong. Same as the stuff they use on balconies. Around 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick. We did frameless with 2 spigots on the bottom that hold each panel vertical. We use one panel as a soccer goal. To break it I think you need a hammer and probably a center punch.

In years gone by, the odd panel would shatter not long after installation. I believe it was from contamination captured between the laminated plates where the laminated membrane is. They're made similar to the way a car windshield is made. When that was common, installers always replaced the shattered panels, but that doesn't seem to occur very often anymore. I've heard there are substandard cheap glass plates available, but I doubt reputable installers would use them.

We are leaving ours alone too as suggested by our installer. Have had people here advise that I apply a product but installer said just a hose off from time to time if it’s seen a lot of pool water. My friend has a glass fence and it always looks filthy. Not finger prints, just grimy and dirty. I wonder if she’s tried to clean it with a glass cleaning product? Almost turned me off.

Good to know it holds up as a soccer goal as my boys will likely use it as one. I probably would have been concerned if you hadn’t told me it’s strong enough.
