Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

My friend has a glass fence and it always looks filthy. Not finger prints, just grimy and dirty.

Ask them to see what cleaning regime (if any?) they have used in the past.

Curious to see if they have applied some product or whether they have simply left the glass to the elements.

Some fence builders are spruiking a chemical nano coating of sorts which ideally should be applied to new clean glass - It is meant to assist with keeping the glass clean.

I will ask but think it’s just been left to the elements. I looked into these products and there are very mixed reviews. We will just follow fencers guidelines of just hosing it off after it sees a lot of pool water or if we haven’t had rain for a while. Are you going with glass, Costas?

My wallet says NO ...however - yes, we will be going with glass....!

A work colleague has had a pool for approx. 3 years on now and he has a glass fence.

He states that he simply just hoses his off every now and then and apparently it looks fine still.

That’s great to hear that your friend has had no problems maintaining his glass fence. Yeah, not cheap. One benefit I have with a small pool... less fencing! Glad to hear you are going ahead with it. It will really make a huge difference to your view from the house/yard. I’m sure you’re all over it but the fencing will need bonding if it’s closer than a certain distance to the water. A bit of a pain as electrician needs to be onsite at the same time as the fencer. Ours goes in tomorrow!

All went well! The wooden gate for the very top area of fencing is being made and will go in Monday or Tuesday, along with the glass gate and wooden palings and that will complete the fencing. Very happy with the glass fencing. The electrician did his thing and will be back tomorrow to complete. There’s an extra double gpo and flood light going in at the equipment pad, plus the control panel thingy (forgotten the technical term). Glass fence sprigots bonded. The only small issue was the heat pump company had trouble plumbing in as the two pipes left by the pb plumber were in the opposite position as to what would have work best for him. He managed it and said all was fine. Pavers will be be cleaned Fri or Sat and sealed a few days later.

Forgot to mention the job I was probably most excited about today. We had the electrician replace our kitchen and dining lights with 10 led down lights. We love them so much! Have a bit of patching to do to the ceiling where the old lights were attached, but it looks so much better and the quality of light is amazing and it’s not even dark yet!

Liz! So much done and done right! Glad they could work with the plumbing even though it was not where they really wanted it for the heater. A few extra adults word and pipe and it is all good!

LOVE the glass fence! It is almost like it is not there! I really want to see how they do the gate. How heavy duty are the hinges do hold it up???

I would love to see the new lights inside the house. I know this a pool forum but we love all things that are pretty and new!

Hi Kim, yes I think the heat pump guy was a little miffed at the plumber, especially since he came out for a site visit the morning the plumber started and they chatted about where the pipes should come out etc. The plumber did bring the pipes through at the right spot, it just would have made the heat pump guy’s life easier if they were the other way around. Oh well, all done regardless and it’s not like I have to look at the spaghetti junction continually.

The glass fence is so solid! I could swing from it and it wouldn’t budge. The sprigots do a great job of holding the panels in. They core drilled down about a foot, before bonding and installing. I was holding my breath as I didn’t want them accidentally drilling in the wrong spot! The gate goes on with metal hinges. The latch will be a certain distance down the inside of the gate so little arms can’t reach over. We have our certification for the fence booked for the 2nd according to pb. Fingers crossed we pass first time. Once we get that we will be booked for pebble!

Just sent hubby up into the roof to adjust the brightness of the new down lights. I’d picked the medium setting earlier but oh wow, it was still so, so bright. We have kept the kitchen as medium and turned the dining area down as low as we can. Kind of hard that get a photo of them. I did take one earlier. The ceiling looks terrible from needing to be patched... sorry hubby, add that to your list!

Also a shot of the work done under our new fence palings to comply with fencing regulations. Foothold is now greater than 900mm. You would think being panelled both sides it would be ok, but because the other side of the fence is older and has shrunk over time, the gaps between palings is over 10mm in spots and fence is below 1.8m in places. These extra rails were also added to the back side of our rear fence, but since it’s not less that 1.8m we don’t need to worry about the slightly greater than 10mm gaps. If you’re ever bored and looking for some light reading, you can google pool fencing regulations Queensland lol.

Ours here in South Australia are no doubt probably very similar. A tad overkill...!

LED Lights - Yes they can be way too bright.

Yes, they are a bit of overkill, especially the finer details. Want water in the pool so we will do what needs to done.

Getting use to the leds. Hubby told the electrician we didn’t want a dimmer [emoji849] We will definitely save money though, since out of the 10 lights, two is plenty when we are not cooking!

I LOVE the fence! There was talk above about keeping it clean. I wonder if using something like this might help keep it nice and tidy.

Amazon.com: Rain-X 800002243 Glass Treatment- 7 fl oz.: Automotive

Thanks Leigh. I’ve been doing a bit of research into the rainx and there’s mixed reviews. Our installer just recommends hosing, so I think we will just start with that. It’s filthy in the photo as it has just gone in. Assuming they do something to clean it up before they finish... will be paying close attention as to how they do this!

Those DO look bright! Dimmers are good. Interesting about the fence. Safety first for sure!! Your laws are extra safe!

Kim:kim:

Yeah, this was before hubby got up in the roof and turned them down. Much warmer on the lowest setting but want to be able to turn them down further when we’re relaxing after dinner.

Yes, safety first here. Kids will find a way if they really want to though.

Updated equipment pad photo. Nothing new to look at really other than an extra double gpo and flood light. The light is telescopic or something so we can lift it out and bend it in certain directions. Power board has been updated and pool fence sprigots tested for equal current (or something like that). Heat pump power locked off. Dimmer switch added to living area lights but not to dining. Think we will be able to manage at night now without sunnies [emoji41] Have a concrete resurfacing company coming today to quote on refinishing the patio and path that has been trashed during the build. Will probably go with a contrasting colour like gun metal grey with a fleck of white or similar. Won’t book him up until I know the pool will be finished. Hubby has put the palings back on the fence and is about to patch the ceiling. Sealing of the pavers has been pushed back as the fence needs to be completed first otherwise the fencers will dirty it. Plan is cleaning pavers likely Wed afternoon or Thus and sealing a few days after.
