Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

The stabilizer is the CYA-needed!

-Calcium down-not so sure about this one-I know your new plaster will cause the calcium to go up but you need some calcium in the pool. What is the calcium in your fill water? they many just have it there for just in case.

Going to check my fill water on the weekend. I’m wondering if they expect it will be high. A bit sis’s on ingredients.

-stabilized chlorine-can you tell if it is loose power or firm pucks/tablets? you will need chlorine and stabilizer but this is a slow way to add stabilizer and you have the "straight" stabilizer above so............use with care.

It’s powder. Will ask how they will above and level they’re shooting for. Do not want high CYA!

-buffer is a fancy name for baking soda LOL you might need it. Talk to your PH about how he plans to start the plaster. What method will he be using?

Will ask this. I think it’s an acid start up but not sure... there is a whole box containing multiple big bottles of acid.

-metal out-good stuff and is one of the better safe than sorry ones.

Ok great.

-purex hardness raiser-now this is a puzzle due to them also having the calcium down-----not sure where they are coming from on this one.

I know right!

-The salt should wait for 30 days but it is good to have it there and ready.

They will. SWG doesn’t go on until 30 days.

Talk to them about how they plan on adding the CYA. It should NOT be dumped in the water. Some people pour it in the skimmer so it goes to the filter to dissolve. This take is longer to get into the water. Here at TFP we like to put it in cute socks and either put it in the skimmer basket, taking care to not block the water flow or hanging in front of a return making sure it does not touch the plaster. The kids can squeeze the socks to help it dissolve faster.

That fence looks awesome! BIG job checked off!

Thanks Kim!

Pavers cleaned today. They were at it for over 4 hours. Area is prepped for sealing with the sprigots for the glass fence raised and taped etc.

You can just make out the hole to access the latch on the other side.

Oh and our pool fence passed inspection first go yesterday! Pebble booked for the 11th. Oh and I asked our lovely supervisor if I was able to keep the temporary fence a little longer so that the dogs are contained for the paver sealing and pebble. Offered to pay for the extra week but he organised immediately at no extra charge. Don’t really want a repeat of them taking advantage of the tradies and getting out, galavanting around the neighbourhood! I will let them have access to the front yard when there is no one inside as I’ve done this whole time, just nice to be able to contain them when necessary.

Liz, you sure did get a good one with your PB. So sweet of him to get on the temp fence and take care of it so fast!

Oh your plaster is next week!!! How exciting!! Make sure to be there to check the color BUT I am sure your PB will be on it so........

He is amazing really. Nothing has been too much trouble for him and he’s really on the ball. Very calm yet in control nature. We have come in under contract price by a few hundred dollars and that’s including the additional excavation costs. Obviously not including what we’ve spent ourselves in the work we’ve done in the yard etc. No hidden costs whatsoever. What was in the contract is what we got.

If pebble goes ahead as planned next Friday, I will be at work. I would expect them to be here before I leave though as all the tradies turn up no later than 7am. It is meant to rain all of next week from Tuesday though, so likely will be pushed back. I actually be happy if that’s the case and it was the following Monday, as I’ll be home Mon/Tues. Will get pb to double check pebble colour for me if I’m not here. They probably do 70% of their pool in this standard colour so chances are slim it will get mixed up, but always worth checking. I’m actually really nervous about the pebble due to all the recent posts here about bad pebble. I’ve scoured all the photos on their website and Facebook page trying to find any bad jobs... can’t find any, but guess you wouldn’t put them up if there were some. I’m happy to let them do their start up however they do it and just move to TFP after handover. All our documentation from them goes on about the importance of the cya and fc relationship, so I doubt they’re too far off the mark. Plus, they hold the warranty, so ya know!

Slow and steady I keep telling myself. Yes, two very excited boys here!

No need to rush....

Your pool is coming to life - I guess you can now start to see the end of the tunnel so to speak and yours is looking great.

Our weather has now turned the last few days - We had a fair amount of rain and my pool water level has risen to around the 3/4 skimmer mark.

Cannot backwash my filter as yet - I have more digging to do this weekend...!

All the while my daughter has been complaining that she cannot have a swim - maybe this weekend I'll let her loose in the water.

I wondered what you had been up to. I swear you can’t build a pool without the weather getting in the way. Already resigned myself to a weeks delay for pebble.

How old is your daughter? My two boys are now at the point where any little bit of progress excites them. Hopefully your daughter can get a swim in this weekend. At least you have water!

She is 8, and pretty much at the same excitement level as your boys I guess. The water makes it harder for her to resist jumping in.

She caught a cold (probably from another kid at her school) and is currently on the mend - She may go for a dip on Sunday as the sun will be out supposedly. Next week is also warming up to the mid 20's - I may even jump in....!

BTW - I don't have a Clear Choice Labs test kit as yet. They have been out of stock of one or two of their reagents and are expecting more to be available in a week or two.

So I'm currently just using the standard 4 way test kit as supplied by the PB at this stage - Feels like I'm testing the water with one hand tied behind my back... :p

Lots of bugs going around here too at the moment. I’m glad she’s on the mend. Hopefully she gets her swim on Sunday. I can’t imagine being a kid while your pool is being built. It must seem to take forever for them. It’s a shame about the wait on the CCL test kit. Not much to be done I guess other than muddle through with what you have. You could express me a water sample and I can test it for you [emoji23]

Sealant done. I have two care products to use when/if needed. The difference in colour of before and after is purely the due to the sun being on the pavers beforehand and no sun in the after photo. Not yet completely dry. I forgot to ask the exact product name but it will be in my warranty and care information that I will receive in the mail. I was pretty nervous about sealing, but very happy we have now.
