Small heat pump for 20K pool in Bay Area?

the smaller version of 150K BTU is 25% cheaper ... will this size be ok for me?

It will heat your pool 25% slower and may not have the capacity to maintain pool temperatures on cooler days.

Raypak has a Gas Pool Heater Sizer. It tells you the Temperature Rise/Hr and Natural Gas and Propane costs to heat a pool in your local area to selected temperature by month. Adjust the natural gas cost and propane cost in the lower left to your local gas prices for accurate costs.

Whenever I see a gas line disconnected like yours I have to question why someone would leave it in what appears to be a very dangerous condition. If that line is active, a slight turn of the gas cock would allow natural gas to escape freely as there is only one side of a union at the end of the pipe, not a cap to seal it. Give it a turn and see if there is gas available. It won't hurt to release a small amount of gas to check (you are a non-smoker I hope) as natural gas is non-poisonous. Just be quick. Why was the old heater removed? Is the other end of that line actually connected at the meter? If not, it likely has a leak and PG&E can detect that remotely and will disconnect them at the meter.

I have a gas detector and just tried to turn it (very hard to turn) and yes it detects gas!! So it is active! I didn't know the history of it. I plan to replace it with a new valve to hook it up to a possibly a Raypak Avia 266K recommended in this thread. What do you think of this unit vs some 30 amp heat pump?

Gas - fast. Heat pump - slow. Heat pump - very efficient. Gas - less efficient. Gas - 213k btu into water (based on usual efficiency). Heat pump - unknown need to read rating plate. San Jose, CA - banned new natural gas installations.

Hi Everyone,

It seems that this new wifi heater with small footprint is not available online to purchase ... I encountered a few websites listing it but not able to provide a shipping estimate or "real" in stock status. Please help me to find where to get it.

Thanks

It seems like no online sellers have the mentioned Raypak avia wifi 266K available to ship. Can you help me to find where to get that unit?

The Avia is very new to market. I have only seen one person here mention getting it. With all the supply chain issues I don't know how available it is. And Raypak may be limiting online sales of it.

san jose? so PGE gas, 20K pool? man, your gas bill will be like $1000 for the month on top of the newly risen rate hike on PGE electricity for the rest of your home. I know im exaggerating but for sure the gas bill will be several hundred dollars alone

Sadly, I think you are right. No one can beat PGE rate here for both gas and electric :) I'm looking for some cheap solar heat to keep the pool warm ...
