SLAMing the Green Monster

Starting my first SLAM to try and tame our Green Monster!

PH - 7.8 (Higher than I wanted but no time to waste)
TA - 60
CYA - 55-60
Targeting FC of 22

Added 4.5 jugs of wally world chlorine at 8:30. Will post back.

Any thoughts on how high CC will go?

Any thoughts on how high CC will go?

This can vary. Some see very little rise in CC while others, depending on the water history, see a decent spike. Either way, it's nothing to be obsessed about. Maintain an FC of 24 based on a rounded-up CYA of 60 and SLAM away. Make sure to brush as often as your schedule allows to keep the algae and bio-film disturbed for best results. Consistency and some pool owner patience in the process is good.

From what I have read, it seems like going a little high on FC (Say 26-28) wouldn't be a bad thing. Am I missing anything?

No reason to raise FC above SLAM level.

Is it a bad thing, or just a waste of bleach?

Reason I ask, I have to run somewhere for 2-3 hours later. Thinking I could bring the level up some before I left to make sure it stays in the SLAM level.

You risk damaging your liner if FC is raised much higher than SLAM level.

Thanks for that tip. Will have to restudy the material. I thought the CC was a sign that the process was working.

Not really. Algae in of itself will not create CC. CC is created by the oxidation of ammonia compounds by chlorine.

Will check again right before I go to bed.

Hope I didn't lose to much momentum between 4:30 and 10:00. Need a big day tomorrow as I leave Monday afternoon on business.
