HELLO ALL,
I am in the middle of a slam procedure and I have question that I haven't heard discussed. As algae dies and settles to the bottom should I be vacuuming them to waste keeping the pool floor clean or let them stay until slam completed?

KOFEEY, Did I read that right? You swam in your pool for 15 min with a fc of 15 - 17? How high of a fc level would mine be safe to swim in with cya of 50? Before reading info on this site I was under the impression that you could never get in one with a fc above 4. I now know that you definitely can go above 4 now but I don't know how high is not safe. Thanks.

It’s safe to swim up to SLAM level. I spent all day in mine yesterday at 11 FC (cya of 70) with no issues.

My son even said it didn’t even irritate his 3rd eye. 😂

I'm new to this so I'm just making sure I'm following. My cya is 50, my free chlorine slam level is 24. So we should be OK swimming at these levels. THANKS
I have never had to SLAM so no first hand experience in swimming at slam level, but I’ve seen many of the experts say it’s okay. Just keep in mind that CC can irritate the eyes, so you may see that if anyone opens their eyes underwater much but opening your eyes underwater can cause irritation in perfectly balanced pools too.

If I were in your shoes I’d go for a test swim using and older swimsuit then hopefully give the family the all clear.

You are correct sir. My CYA was 60 which was a slam level of 24 but after all of the vacuuming to waste I had to add water to the pool which changed my CYA to 50 and now the slam level is indeed 20 thanks for catching.

Yep, swam again today, just finished a full cleaning, I passed overnight test for the past few days but kept my FC high as I just opened. Lost 5fc with high UV today so dropping now to normal FC levels. During this opening SLAM, I can't even smell the chlorine, a hint on my speedo, I also use goggles but no issues. You'll be fine. Enjoy your pool!!! 😀

A great note. Most folks don't know that if you're wearing TYR, Nike, whatever swimwear you only have to wash it in cold water and air dry. Putting proper swim wear into the washer will destroy your gear.

SO I PASSED THE OCLT WITH A DROP OF 0.5 PPM, PASSED THE CC WITH A LEVEL OF 0.5, WATER IS CRYSTAL CLEAR, NO SIGNS OF LIVE ALGAE. I AM STILL SEEING SOME DARK BROWN SETTLEMENT WHICH I THINK IS DEAD ALGAE, EACH TIME I SEE IT I VACUYM IT TO WASTE. SHOULD I STAY AT SLAM LEVEL UNTIL THIS QUITS SHOWING UP ON THE BOTTOM OR LET THE FC DROP TO MAINTENANCE LEVEL and keep vacuuming to waste. And by the way I've been vacuuming the brown stuff off of the bottom for about 3 weeks so all I can do is assume it is still dead algae. If you even get close to it (poof) it's gone. Thoughts?

Please to not use all caps mode.

Yes, continue slam until there is no more nothing in the pool.

Sand filters, particularly on an AGP take the longest to clear. How often and when are you backwashing?

I was backwashing every few days, but now I've learned only to backwash when the clean filter pressure goes up 25%. I just today added a cup of de powder to the sand filter, like hours ago.
