Single Speed Super Pump 1HP - upgrade to variable or 2 speed?

Searched a lot but didn't find my exact situation - currently have a 1HP super pump setup and am on my second motor. That motor is nearing the end of its life as I run it 24/7 for almost 6 months a year (get about 6 years as I leave out in winter due to plumbing end is fixed and hard wired) so am wondering if I should get a 2-speed next or go variable speed.

Have a pro-logic pl-8 so I need compatibility there and also now have the option to run pump part time (had a leak that I finally got around to fixing that prevented that due to losing prime when off). What are my options for motor-only replacement as wet end needs to stay as-is?

Thanks in advance.....

If you dont want to replace your bearings for $30 to get another six years, then get a VS. 2-speed is not a good use of your money as VS is much cheaper to operate. You will get your money back in 6 months.

Thank you for the reply

Last time motor started the unbalanced hum and a bit of a squeal at times I was told it needed replacement as it was more in the motor than just bearings??? Was I sold a motor I didn't need?

To clarify the VS question - If I go that route is there a plug and play kit to keep pump/wet end and just add VS motor? What else is needed if I have Prologic to control speed?

windings don't squeal, bearings do.
Yes, call the inyopool guys, they have options/answers for you about VS motors.
Remember to get the seals and o-ring kit for your pump.

See recent post below for a similar situation, including automation compatibility.

V-Green 1.65, ECM16CU, motor will bolt on, can be run off of your relay as your pump is now and save a lot of money. There are YouTube videos on using that motor with a time clock. Just substitute your automation for what is said about a timeclock. Works well, done it several times.
The only VSP your Pro Logic can communicate with directly is a Hayward, and you will get 2 speed options only.
Running a motor 24/7 is actually easier on a motor than the start/stop cycles normally seen.

Why would I only get 2 speed options if the prologic has a variable option in the menu? So I could use a timer on non-Hayward VSP to do the same thing - would that cause issues with making sure heater only runs during enough flow? Same for chlorinator?

Sorry am new to the 2 speed / VSP concept but need to save some running costs for sure.......between gas and hydro its hundreds a month!!!!
