Show Off Your Cabana/Pool House/Outdoor Tiki Bar

Hi everyone!
I am trying to get ideas on a Cabana/Outdoor Bar to build. I have a general idea, but would love to see pictures of what you all have, so that I can get a better picture of details I could give to the person constructing this. Any tips and/or advice would be great too!

Dave - Thanks. We designed it and served as the "General Contractor" ourselves, to help keep the costs down. All total, the cabana area (w/ bathroom and kitchen) cost about $25,000. A fairly big chunk of that was getting the sewer, water, electric and gas lines (for grill and side burner) relocated to serve it. We sure like it, especially having that bathroom so conveniently close to the pool area. We also put an outdoor shower off the bathroom wall, too, since the plumbing was already there. The granite countertops were just under $3,000 (80 sq. ft.). Honestly, we probably went a little overboard on the kitchen finishes, but we have zero regrets. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I’m in the middle of my build. I am hoping to do countertops in a few weeks we pretty much came to 1 conclusion of granite. Why?

Concrete might crack over time. That would bother me. It does look so nice though.

Tile or granite tiles I don’t like the joints.

Formica just didn’t make sense to me outside. The old school version or newer version.

Corian I didn’t feel would hold up outside.

Granite just makes sense. We have it in our kitchen. We cook every single day. My wife bakes like mad. We have zero stains and zero marks. We are very tough on our kitchen.

This is all my thinking regardless of cost.

I am hoping to do a leathered granite for outside cause I think it would go nice with our brick. That’s if it’s not crazy expensive vs regular granite.

Yes, it does move a lot of air. Plus, it is DC powered, which makes it quiet and very energy efficient. We usually leave it on all the time. Helps scare the birds away amd deter them from trying to roost on the cabana beams.

I went with absolute black granite, as you don't have to seal it. Downside is that it shows dust like a black car so if you're anal like I am, you're always wiping it down. Also, if it's directly exposed to the sun it gets pretty toasty.

If you're going to be mixing up drinks, make sure you have a sink. While I have a fridge out there, I value my ice maker more. I installed a glass washer as well after seeing all the bars using them.

I like that setup. Can you post one or two more pix? And tell more about the glass washer! I'm constantly washing glasses and of course, we use plastic around the pool and I don't like to put them in the dishwasher.

I’m almost done here. Still need my green egg and for my buddy to hook up my faucet. Also need to grab a tv. Just waiting for a sale from one of our distributors.

All in all I’m happy. For not having any plans everyrhing came out exactly like my drawings. We ran into very few snags except the humidity issues with some of my poplar bath walls buckling but we are fixing that.

Here are some random almost done pics.
Ceilings are sapele. Bathroom walls poplar. Beams cement board. Cabinets are sapele. All sapele was raw and run and finished down my buddy’s shop. Pavers are Hanover pavers that are tumbled. Brick is key west jumbos. 3 inch limestone. Granite not sure of color. Furniture is front gate and raymour & flanigan. All switches are zwave being controlled over Vera. Audio is proficient speakers. Control zone is nuvo profile. There r 3 independent zones outside. Access point is ubiquito. Cameras are specs tech tvi over rh6 cause rest of my house is the same to be on 1 Dvr.

Think that’s about it for anyone wondering.

It took a while but it was because we could only work on it when my dads guys or my guys were not swamped with regular jobs. I’m very thankful for having these people in my corner. It made building my home and this pool so stress free. Any stress was my own doing. Haha
