Sock test results on the deep end return with the main drain slightly opened ; a few tiny flecks are seen on both socks, no sand, silt, or other matter seen. These results are after backwashing with no DE added after that backwash. DE was added after these tests.
That is the question. Is it live algae? I do know that there are at least three areas where brown goop is sitting on the pool floor in the shallow end. Is that algae? Decomposed organic matter, or a combination? The good news is that no other areas other than the three aforemtioned are visible in the shallow end. The bad news is that who knows what resides in the deep end? MY slam is now 13 days old, and it is getting old and costly.
Those brown piles can harbor live algae that is consuming your FC. Since you can see where they are, I would try to vacuum just those spots very, very slowly so you disturb the water as little as possible. They are probably drifts of silt that would pass through a net.
On closer inspection they're is alot more areas. I can see to the bottom of the shadow end, and there are concentrations along the bottom of the walls, and on the ridge where the deep end starts.
I would vacuum the spots I see slowly. Instead of moving the vacuum back and forth I would gently place it over the darkened areas and let it pick up the debris, then move it to another darkened area.
