Serious help needed

Also, good news and bad news. First, the bad news. There were three frogs in the pool today, all on the very young to young size. I was able to capture all three for relocation. Now, the good news. I was able to observe them swimming as they attempted to get away from me. In other words, the clarity of the water about 12-18 inches permitted their observation. So, that is some progress.

Pictures to be posted later on. I am not vacuuming or disturbing the pool. I did have to backwash this morning.:kim:

I didn't add DE to my sand filter until after I passed the 3 criteria. I use it to go from "clear" to "sparkly". It won't, in my opinion, clear up a swamp, it will just speed up the final push to clear.

The 3 criteria being?

As you have discovered, the addition of DE is a last step, only to be used after you have killed and filtered the great majority of algae and other debris. DE addition is to aid in achieving a final polish to the water. You have a while to go before you will be in a position to do that.

I see that !

My hairnets should be arriving today from Amazon. I will try them in the skimmers, and see what happens. The knee highs did too good of a job and collected lots of "slimy stuff", but stopped water flow to the pump.

FYI, those hairnets will clog quickly, too. Just keep an eye on them, your water flow and pump pressure. Do not use the hairnets if you are not home because you have such a high debris load. The good thing is the hairnets are cheap and you can throw them away.

hairnet skimers working, not shutting off flow; lots of pine needles, bits of organics, and what looks like some form of dirt or oxidized stuff. The hairnets look a bit dirty after 2-3 hours; doing frequent changes

The hairnets have worked well, but not to the degree of comprehensivness of the knee highs. As stated previously, the knee highs inteferred with my water flow so they were rendered unfit for my application. The hairnets captured lots of organic stuff, especially pine needles, and some form of dirt/slime/organic who knows. They do not interfere with water flow as they were installed all night without a hitch to my pump. I am going to double up on the nets to see if they can be improved without interference. Sadly, two more young frogs were DOA in the nets this AM.
