Weve gotten something like 10 inches of rain in the Raleigh NC area over the past few days. And even more over the past few weeks. Finally came to a head today, where the ground is completely saturated and can not hold any more water. 1.5 inches of rain later today (spread out over 10-12 hrs) and the ground is overflowing into my pool and then back out again. This was crystal clear last night... This is not algae, this is just dirt. Few days of filter running 24/7 will fix.

Ive got some digging to do this weekend, to trench around the pool and prevent this in the future. My yard slopes across itself, so the pool is in the middle, with the house at one end, and treeline dug down for the pool. Have to divert water flowing around since everything flows into the pool area. Easy enough to do, but its gonna be a lot of work to have done. Good thing is once I get it over to the other side, the natural slope will quickly remove the water. The previous owner put in a ton of trenching and drains for the house previously, but neglected for the pool. Dunno why as I assume this has happened before over its nearly 30 year livespan.

At least I havnt had a tree fall yet, knock on wood. They are uprooting as the ground wont hold them in at all...

Man, I feel for you. Good that you have a plan to avoid it in the future. You know how to do a SLAM, right?

Its been in almost a constant SLAM for 2 weeks now. This is more a filter problem than a SLAM issue. All that dirt...

See my other post recently where I got 4 inches in a few hrs, filled it up, but didnt overflow it from outside like this. Its been raining almost every day for 2 weeks otherwise. My waste pipe has been getting a good workout...

You may be wasting a lot of your chlorine if you're having to pump that much water out. I think for now you should just try to maintain the 5ppm per day while you wait for some days when you can actually slam without worrying about overfill from rain.

What a mess but at least you know how to get the pool back to clear.

For now I WOULD keep it a SLAM level for your CYA. You do not want to give any algae a chance to get a handhold on the pool. Of course your CYA levels are changing as more water is exchanged to keep an eye on it as well.
