ScreenLogic won't show IntelliFlo RPM

First of all, this forum is a gem. I've learned a ton about the pool in my new house by reading threads here in the last few weeks. I've successfully got my system configured correctly, the pump controlled by the controller (they never installed the com cable), and replaced the wireless link that was broken.
Everything works great except a couple of things between my pump and EasyTouch 8 / ScreenLogic.

First, ScreenLogic never shows the Watts, RPM, nor Flow of my pump. The pump speed changes correctly when I turn on/off different circuits. I can hear it speed up and slow down. For example, I have a 24/7 schedule with the pump RPM at 1550, which is almost as low as I can go and still get a good flow through the salt cell. I also have a few hours of skimming/vacuum setup in the morning with a 2200 RPM. I can easily hear the pump speed up and slow down at the right times. Just nothing in the ScreenLogic app. It shows --- for watts, 0 for RPM, and --- for flow.

Second, and maybe related, I don't have the option to choose IntelliFlow VSF in the ScreenLogic Configuration. I can only choose VS or VF. It's an EasyTouch 8 system, which I upgraded successfully to the latest build (5.2 Build 738.0 Rel). Right now I have VS chosen, which seems to be working ok except for not showing the watts or RPM.

Third, I can only choose RPMs up to about 2950. If I try to set the RPM any higher, the pump just ignores the command to switch speeds. For example, if I'm running one schedule at 1500 RPM, then turn on the waterfall circuit (which has an RPM of 3100), the pump just stays at 1500. If I change the waterfall circuit to 2950, the pump will speed up to [presumably] that speed.

Thanks for any help!

The Easytouch firmware added support for the new "VSF+SVRS Intelliflo Pump" in 2.090

It's possible to upgrade the firmware if you're willing to get your own programmer,

Oh wow. Mine is version 1.050. I didn't realize the ET8 firmware had to be updated, as well. Looks like I have a new project!
Do you know if that would fix the 0 RPM display? Or is there a list of the firmware changes? I saw a few posted in that thread, but nothing complete, nor anything that addressed the 0 RPM issue specifically.

C,

I suspect that you have the pump set up for a max speed of 2950. (Inside the pump)

Try this test..

Using ScreenLogic, turn on a pool light. Confirm that the light icon in ScreenLogic turns 'green'. Go outside and confirm that the light is actually on.

Using the buttons on the EasyTouch turn off the light. Visually confirm the light is off. Confirm the ScreenLogic green light icon is off.

Let me know what happens.

As a side note.. anytime you screw with the pump 'type' drop down, it can delete all your speeds... :brickwall:

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ah - never realized the pump could be setup internally to have a max speed. I'll go read that manual.

Interested to see where you're going with the pool light thing, but it worked as expected with one caveat: I had to do it with the spa light because the pool light is burned out. Other than that, each time I pushed the switch in the app, it turned on the relay at the box. Each time I toggled the relay at the box, it immediately updated the app. Both successfully turned the physical light on and off.

I think Jim might be right in that the board can't be updated, see the following article for more info.

C,

I was just trying to prove that you had two-way communications... And it sounds like you do.

I think not having your Speed or amps reported to ScreenLogic is due to the F/W version of your EasyTouch.

I did not realize how old your F/W was..

Let's see what Tom says.

Thanks,

Jim R.

hah, that's my article! ;) as far as I know, the v1/v2 boards are identical except for the processor... the fact that yours has a 1x firmware all but indicates to me that it's a v1 (before may 2008).

depending on the board manufacturer, they seem to have used a 4-digit date code, either in year/week format or week/year... so "0623" from your photo would likely mean "the 23rd week of 2006". I have one board with a "1416" code and a Pentair label with October 2014, and another from a different manufacturer with a "2817" code and a Pentair label with 11/1/2017... so that seems plausible.

but, since you've got the board out, you "could" try to use a magnifier and a light and see if you can read a 64 or 128 on the chip under the lcd?

If you're into DIY projects you could try using the njsPC project instead which would show you the RPM and watts from the pump (amongst other things). All you need to do is buy an Elfin EW11 for about $20 to install inside your EasyTouch panel and then extend the antenna outside the low voltage raceway for improved WiFi connectivity. Then once hooked up you just need a computer like a Raspberry Pi to install NodeJS and the aforementioned project to access the web dashboard.

Thanks, everyone, for the help.
I'm going to try to find a v2 board and swap it out to future-proof the system a bit.

@guinness - I have the pentair system integrated with my Home Assistant system, which I want to keep. I'll take a look at the pool control project if I can't get Pentair working well, but it's really close! If I were building a new system from scratch, I would DEFINITELY go this way.

Can't tell ya'll how much I appreciate the knowledge sharing on this forum.

Hey @guinness can correct me but I think of the njsPc as more of a replacement for screenlogic than a replacement for the pentair system... i.e. you still need the pentair board, but njsPc talks to it and gives you a really nice web ui for it... so go ahead and throw it on there anyway!!

Do you have your HA tied into ScreenLogic with this integration? It's also possible to integrate njsPC into HA with njsPC-HA to show speed/watts.

I'm not sure buying a new board is worth it, but there's a member who's selling their old board after upgrading to the newer IntelliCenter.

I suppose it comes down to what you're ultimately trying to achieve. If you have any questions you can send me a PM if you prefer.
