SC Pool Build

Updated quote #1.

Don't have an update on quote 2 yet for cartridge filter and Intellicenter, but signed a tentative contract with builder #2 ($1,000 down) refundable until liner is ordered, remainer is due after liner is installed. This way we could get a date for install starting. As it stands right now, the install will be completed 2 weeks prior to our vacation. We are having the wettest winter on record so lots of installs are getting pushed back.

Builder 2 did come back out today to ask about why I wanted the cartridge filter and Intellicenter. He said they don't do many DE or cartridge filters but have never done an Intellicenter. Their Pentair rep said that it is probably overkill. We don't have many pool features that I think would usually warrant an upgrade to the Intellicenter and I found tagyoureit/nodejs-poolController which will allow me to integrate either EasyTouch or Intellicenter with Home Assistant.

The selling point for me on the Intellicenter is OTA updates and not having to add another component(Screenlogic 2).

Also we are not tight on budget either as I paid cash for the shed/pool house and the fence earlier this week.

@Jimrahbe you said "get the IntelliCenter with the internal SWCG power supply" do you know the SKU for that? They want me to send over the SKU's for all the Pentair requipment I want.

Here are two links to all of the Pentair IntelliCenter Bundled (to include what are included in the bundles) (scroll down to section 8.) and a-la-carte parts and pieces along with their Pentair part numbers.

Bundled Systems and parts included
IntelliCenter Bundled and Component Parts List

If you need something additional that you don't see there. Let me know and I'll do my best to find out.
r.

BTW, you will notice in the bundles that only the IntelliChlor IC-40 is offered. If the IC-60 is the IntelliChlor model that you have determined that you need/want, then it can be bundled with the particular IntelliCenter system that you are looking at. Just let me know and I'll get you the info that you need so you can order a bundled system with an IC-60.

$2300 to go from:
Easy Touch with Screenlogic 2, IC-60 and Pentair Sand Dollar SD35

to:

Intellicenter and 520 sq/ft Cartridge pump.

I think I saw you can get an upgrade kit for $800 to go from Easy Touch to Intellicenter. Checking with module Easy Touch they usually use.

13,

I think the price is more about him not being happy that you want what you want and not what he recommended. I am not sure about the cost of the sand filter, but would assume the CCP-520 is about $500 bucks more... the IntelliCenter should only be about $300 more.

I suggest that you call Polly pool and see what they will sell you the equipment for, and see what you pool builder will charge you for the install.

It takes the same effort to install an EasyTouch as it does the IntelliCenter.. It is much less of an effort to install a cartridge filter than it does to install a sand filter. A cartridge filter does not even have a multiport valve and is just dirt simple to install.

That said.. It is not the end of the world one, way or the other..

Thanks,

Jim R.

@Gibby13,
Ditto on what @Jimrahbe said.

If you call PolyTec Pools, they will be happy to give you a quote. I'm guessing that your builder is "marking up the price" (which I think might be normal to some extent for admin/handling, warranty processing, etc) but it shouldn't be too overly-inflated either I wouldn't think. Maybe one of these "smarter guys then me" on TFP can tell you what normal equipment markup is for builders.

Anyway, give em call just to see how much your builder is inflating the prices.

Keep in mind that IntelliCenter requires no downloading or installing of anything on your desktop/laptop. I am certainly NOT trying to sway you either way. I know very little about the EasyTouch (however, Jimrahbe certainly does), but my understanding is that it is a rock-solid system and like Jim said is about $300.00 or so less when you factor in the Screenlogic for Easy Touch.

The IntelliCenter cares not what your operating system is, because the computer interface is a Web-Based Client, so you can run any operating system on your PC or MAC that you care to, just so long as you can access the internet. Both systems can be accessed through an iOS or Android mobile device.

Take care.

13,

Keep in mind that all builders do not supply the equipment at what they pay for it. They also charge for installation, warranty work, etc.. Fair or not, I suspect that is probably about 35 to 50%..

It will be interesting to see what he has to say.

Thanks,

Jim R.

So pretty interesting, they were actually at $5,985 for the equipment, but he brought it down to $5,295. They are actually below Poly for the filter, little above for the pump and lot more the Intellicenter(He said they don't get any discounts for the Intellicenter from Pentair since they don't sell any usually). They also added the a 8' swimout for nothing, 2 plumbing hookups for maybe a slide or water feature later and still is a few hundred less than the first quote.

I am also still under budget, so quite happy. Was debating a heater/heat pump or maybe safety cover. The heat pump is interesting because, I think since it is only going to be 6' deep, in June, July, and August the water might get a tad on the warm side for my liking.

Right now my fence guy is due to start installing the fence a week after they start building, but this rainy weather is really messing with the schedules. We also leave for vacation for 10 days, 2 weeks after they start the pool. Little freaked out about that.

For chemicals (Recommended Pool Chemicals - Trouble Free Pool), I am only missing something to raise CYA. And of course salt.

I wanted a heat pump for the reasons you outlined but my builder advised to wait and see if we needed it to expand the swim season or cool the summer water. My pad is stubbed and wired so I can add it myself later. So far, I have not. This is the time of year I contemplate needing one but then I wonder if we would get more use from a hot tub. Then summer comes and I'm happy to have the $ still in the bank.

Here are the temps from our pool over the last year. These are from mid-month measurements. Our pool is 16x38, ~14.5K gallons, oriented E-W on the long axis, shaded in the afternoon, 3.5 - 7' deep, and has a tanning ledge. Hope this helps.

With the exception of Dec and January, it will be in full sun, no shade at all. We use the Crud out of our hot tub. Past 2 years it has been setup in our double car garage, have a projector setup so we can watch movies which is awesome while in the hot tub.

I think I might get some quotes for auto covers.

TDS is meaningless. You need to be able to test CH, salinity (if you have a SWCG), and CYA separately. Those all comprise parts of TDS.

You will need reagent refills anyway. Just order the refill package from TFTestkits.net when it is advertised in March. I believe you will also need the mixing bottle and vial to test CYA.
