We have just got a intex sand filter pump and I see nothing about if chemicals are also needed to add to the water? Any help would be great

All you've done is upgrade the pump and filter - it's still the same water and has the exact same needs it always had. The filter will not remove algae, if that's what you were hoping for.
Do you have a test kit? Can you post readings? How does the water look?
