Hi! We have a pentair 1HP sand filter pump that is no longer working for our inground pool. It’s old. My husband took the lid off and the motor appears corroded. He can get it to turn on for a few minutes and then it just stops. Is it possible to just replace the motor itself or do we need to replace the entire pump? Which is the better route? Thanks!!

Take a picture of the pump, and post the make and model # of the pump.

Is it a sand filter? When did you last backwash? or if not sand, when did you last clean?
Have him turn off the power to the pump at the breaker and see if there is any debris in the impeller.
How are you testing your water? Can you post a set of test results?

Last backwash was a week ago. The gauge was reading normal. It’s a sand filter. The motor is whining and making a grinding noise if that helps at all?
He checked and there doesn’t appear to be any debris in the impeller.
We were testing our water using our testing kit (TF-100) up until a few days ago when the pump quit. Everything was showing in the normal ranges and no issues with cloudiness. I’m sure our levels are off now with no chlorine running through.

Superflo is a decent pump. The whining is likely the bearing, the grinding is the shaft seal.
You can get a motor for about $300. The shaft seal and replacement o-rings are about $50 (called a Go Kit). It would not be a difficult rebuild.
What is the part number on the pump? (not the motor).
These are example replacement, without a pump model number, do not go order "these" parts until we confirm what you have. These are likely correct.

We aren’t sure whether it’s 115V or 230V, I’m so sorry. Is there a way to find that information?
The pump number is on this picture we believe. It’s the only other numbers on our equipment. Is this right?

You have limited options for a vsp on 115v. This is the cheapest option and a decent high head pump.
