Is it normal for sand to be in the Sight Glass?

Is it normal when I turn on “Filter” for the first time in the day, that sand comes out into my pool?

Actually I occassionally get sand in my sight glass on the filter. It gets in there during a backflush. I also find a handful of sand on the ground at the end of the backflush hose. You shouldn't get sand in the pool unless there is a hole in one of the laterals.

What should normal PSI be?

Normal is a relative term for each pool. Basically you start with a clean (starting/baseline) pressure. When the psi increases by 25%, then it's time to backwash.
