Salt levels reading high after after opening

Opened saltwater pool on Wednesday. Had some mild green. Balanced levels and started SLAM process. As pool is clearing up, I tested the salt levels to prepare and turn on SWG after slamming.

My levels are reading 5600 ppm using the Taylor kit. Seems odd that it's that high considering I haven't added any salt and levels were normal when closing last season. Water temp is 48. Could that be affecting it? Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks!

Possibly- bring the sample inside & let it warm up to room temp & test again. Also be sure you are using the correct sample size - 10ml. The instructions are worded funny & people sometimes use 25ml on accident.

Did you test using a 10 ml sample or 25 ml sample? You should be testing with 10 ml, not 25 ml.

How long had your pump been running before you took the salt sample?

Water temperature does not affect the salt test.
