Salt Generator stays on when pump is off

Hi, we have an Intellichlor salt generator. Whenever the pump is off the flow switch stays green. I took it off and tested the flow switch and it works fine when it’s not hooked up. I push it and it comes on I let go and it turns off. But once it’s hooked up and water starts flowing through it doesn’t shut back off. Also, when I took it off all the water drained from the filters. So it makes me wonder if the water draining out if holding the switch on.

Dana,

When the pump is off, the cell should not get any power at all... If it does, it is not wired correctly, and is a safety problem.. If the flow switch is closed when the water is not flowing, then that could be a bad flow switch.. Two separate problems..

Tell us more about your system.. How old is it? Do you have an automation system, or a stand alone IntelliChlor...

Show us a pic of how it is installed.....

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim! Sorry I didn’t know anyone replied! I appreciate it. The cell does not go off when the pump is off. It’s wired separately. I took off the salt water generator and tested the flow switch and it works. I pushed it and the generator comes on and then when I let it go it turns off. It just doesn’t turn off once the pump goes off. It’s like the water that’s still in the generator that now isn’t flowing is holding it on.

You need to get the SWCG set up so that power is removed from it when the pump is not running. Using a timer or a type of relay.

This person operated the same way you are right now -- Explosion near the SWG

Dana,

Please go back and read my post #2... Having power on the SWCG when the pump is off is like driving around with your air bags disconnected... Will the car still work.. Why, yes it will.. right up until the moment you need those air bags.. You might be able to drive 100K without needing the air bags... that does not make it a good or safe idea...
