Rusted ladder leg. What to do?

Attached picture. Noticed it's been leaking watery rust, took cap off and black rusty water came out. How do I fix this, if at all?

Sand off the loose rust, or use a wire brush. Wipe it clean, then spray it with Rustoleum Rust Converter. Let it cure 24 hours, then paint with Rustoleum Stops Rust paint. That might give you another year or two.

Then buy some plastic steps from Confer or some place similar. Or jump right to buying plastic steps and skip the whole paint thing.
